Base on the prominent situation of heavy compaction, poor water retention properties and low fertility of upland red soil in Jiangxi province, a field randomized biock experiment has been carried out to study the effects of soil modifiers (biochar and calcium peroxide) on retain water (soil moisture dynamics) and fertilities (physical and chemical properties, nutrient status, et al). It is designed to have9treatments including CK、COCal、 C0Ca2、ClCaO、C2Ca0、C1Cal、ClCa2、C2Cal、C2Ca2(The amount of biochar CO、 C1、C2were0、758、1515kg·hm-2·a-1respectively; The amount of calcium peroxide CaO> Cal、Ca2were0、61、121kg·hm-2·a-1respectively). The objectives of this research were to provide a reference for improving soil texture and increasing agricultural productivity. Two kinds of amendments had a greater impact on the physical properties of soil moisture, which increased saturated water content, field capacity, and capillary water content. The effect of combined application of biochar and calcium peroxide was better than those of single application, in which the effect of C2Cal treatment was best.Biochar and calcium peroxide reduced soil bulk density, increased soil pH and cation exchange capacity. The effect of combined application of biochar and calcium peroxide was better than those of single application. The effects were different with different dosage of biochar and calcium peroxide. Soil bulk density, pH and cation exchange capacity were on the rise with the increase of amount of calcium peroxide, soil bulk density is on the decline but cation exchange capacity is on the rise with the increase of biochar amount. Soil bulk density reduced significantly by5.06%~8.53%in C2Cal treatment, but soil pH increased significantly by5.96%~22.17%and cation exchange capacity increased significantly by13.06%~15.26%in C2Ca2treatment.Biochar and calcium peroxide increased the contents of soil organic matter and soil fertility. Soil organic matter、total K and P were on the rise with the increase of amount of calcium peroxide. Soil organic matter, total K and readily available K is on the rise with the increase of biochar amount, the effect of combined application of biochar and calcium peroxide was better than those of single application. Compared with CK, soil organic matter increased by13.54%~30.31%in C2Ca2treatment. Soil N increased significantly by8.51%~8.87%and available N increased by15.88%~35.60%in C1Cal treatment. Total P and available P increased significantly by7.83%~33.13%and9.70%~86.16%in C1Cal treatment. Total K increased by13.06%~20.00%in C2Ca2treatment and available K increased24.31%~47.20%in C1Cal treatment. In summary, the amendments can effectively improve physical and chemical properties and nutrient status of upland red soil, and increase water retention characteristics of the soil, the effect of combined application of biochar and calcium peroxide was better than those of single application.
