Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) disease is one of diseases in soybean production worldwide. It impacts the soybean yield and degrades the soybean commodity. Collection and identification of the Soybean Mosaic Virus (SMV) is the basis of resistance breeding. A lot of studies on identification of SMV strains, screening for resistant germplasm, inheritance and gene mapping for SMV resistance in soybeans had been conducted. The uniform SMV strains differential system in China had been set up by Wang et al.(2003), Yang (2002), Zhan et al.(2006). Based on that, Wang et al.(2003), Yang(2002), Zhan et al.(2006), Guo et al.(2005), Wang et al.(2005), and Li et al.(2010) reported the composition and distribution of soybean mosaic virus in northeast of China, Huang-huai region, and southern of China. But as time went on and disease resistant varieties alternatived, the SMV strain have probably changed.Therefore, the objective of the present study was to reveal the constitution and distribution of SMV strains in Southern Huang-huai region, and to investigate variation of SMV strain in Anhui province. The main results were as follows:1. Identification and distribution of SMV strains in soybean production in Southern Huang-huai region:In the present study,382diseased specimens of soybean leaves were collected from4provinces (south of Anhui, north of Shandong, south of Jiangsu, east of Henan) in Southern Huang-huai region during the flowering period of soybean in2010. Then45SMV isolates were obtained by biological purification with single lesion isolation and serological determination. Based on the disease reactions on10soybean differential hosts (Nannong1138-2, Youbian30,8101, Tiefeng25, Davis, Buffalo, Zaoshu18, Kwanggyo, Qihuang No.1and Kefeng No.1), the45SMV isolates were grouped into7strains.6of these7strains were the same as the previously reported strains. A new group was detected and was doubted as a new strain, so the new group was designated as XL-7before it was validated. The new group XL-7was a widespread strain in the Southern Huang-huai region, and accounted for13.3%of the total isolates. SC7and SC13could be deteced in three provinces and accounted for28.9%and13.3%of the total isolates respectively. In addition, although SC19only was detected in Anhui province, this strain accounted for15.6%of the total isolates, so SC19was also one of the major strains in Southern Huang-huai region.2. Investigate of the SMV strain variation in soybean production areas in Anhui province.In the present study,31SMV isolates were obtained from Anhui province. The results of identification to31isolates showed that the composition of the SMV strain was very complex in Anhui province. There were7SMV strains, including SC3、SC7、SC8、SC13、 SC17、SC19、XL-7, and the percent of the7SMV strains were12.9%、35.5%、12.9%、3.2%、6.5%、22.6%and6.5%respectively. The previous researches confirmed that SC3, SC7and SC8were the most widespread strains in Anhui province, and the present study also showed that these three strains were still in the highest flight. Besides, SC17, SC19and XL-7were found in Anhui province for the first time. Great changes of composition of SMV strains had taken place. And there new strains have appeared in Anhui province.
