Research On Self-feeding Gelatinous Medicine Carrier For Pets

Currently the medicinal agents and methods of administration for pet medicine are certain inadequacies. Oral drugs such as tablets and powders are not easy to be catched by pet because of the repulsive odor or palatability. Injections drugs and vaccines have limitations, because pets may hart humans by stress response and the risk of disease spread may increase. Therefore, in this study, we developed a new pet medication carrier-pets self-feeding gelatinous medicine carrier based on the production reality of pet disease treatment industry in our country, according to the actual demand of pet medicinal agents and methods of administration, and played our team advantages of adjuvants and new agents. Put high concentration of small doses of drug in relatively bulky and palatable edible matrix. The bitter, pungent taste and other undesirable odor were diluted and did not affect the intake of pets. There are certain essential nutrients in the carrier, such as functional vitamins and minerals, which are beneficial for pets fully digest and absorb to ensure the pets growth healthy, pets are initiative to take in, and not only make pets owners more convenient to feed, but also improve the level of medicinal agents in China pets market and increase economic benefits of related pets medicine production enterprises.Specifically, the research work carried out in this paper was divided into the following two parts:(1) Design and optimization of pets self-feeding gelatinous medicine carrier formulation. The effects of six major factors including gel types and content, fish steak powder granularity and content, soft white sugar and citric acid content on gelatinous medicine carrier sense indicator, gel strength and water-holding capacity were detedted. Single factor test was carried out to determine the appropriate content of six factors, then the optimum formulation of gelatinous medicine carrier was defined by orthogonal experiment. The materials and content of optimum formulation is1.0%of80mesh fish steak powder,0.6%of carrageenan,1.0%of soft white sugar,0.175%of citric acid,0.1%of complex vitamins,0.2%of complex minerals,0.3%of sodium erythorbate,0.05%of potassium sorbate, and the rest is water.(2) The pets self-feeding gelatinous medicine carrier indicators, which adds gentamicin sulfate as a model drug, was detected physical and chemical indicators, microbial indicators, stability and palatability. The result shows that the gel strength and water holding capacity of gelatinous medicine carrier display well, physicochemical and microbiological indicators were conform to national standards specified; physicochemical and microbiological indicators of gelatinous medicine carrier were not changed significantly after stored five months at room temperature; the preservation rate of drug activity in gelatinous medicine carrier was saved up to97.2%, and gelatinous medicine carrier hided the bitter taste of gentamicin sulfate, which is palatable and pet-friendly, and easy for pet to self-feed without affecting pets intake.
