Grassland ecosystem is an important part of the global terrestrial ecosystems, which plays an important role in maintaining stability and security aspects of global ecosystems. According to vegetation types and utilization intensities, we investigated and analyzed seventy plots in natural grassland, Shanxi. And above-ground biomass, below-ground biomass, biomass carbon storage and soil carbon storages (0-10 cm) were measured in natural grassland, which derived from different grassland types and different utilization intensities. The study could provide scientific foundation for grassland use and carbon budget mechanism in Shanxi province. Our results showed as followed:The study analyzed mainly five grassland types in natural grassland of Shanxi province, including warm-temperate hassock, warm-temperate hassock with shrubs, temperate meadow, temperate steppe and temperate mountain meadow. We analyzed ground living biomass, litter biomass and below-ground biomass. The results indicated that ground biomasses in turn were 212.33 g·m-2,267.72 g·m-2,243.31 g·m-2, 220.04 g·m-2 and 212.33 g·m-2, that litter biomasses in turn were 10.81 g·m-2,10.10 g·m-2,22.11 g·m-2,7.92 g·m-2 and 27.78 g·m-2, that below-ground biomasses were 1590.8 g·m-2,1694.07 g·m-2,1680.99 g·m-2, 1831.48 g·m-2 and 1417.83 g·m-2, respectively. In addition, below-ground biomass in the 0-30 cm soil layer occupied 91.32%,96.24%,91.87%,93.06% and 94.74% of total below-ground biomass, respectively. The total biomass had significant difference in different utilization intensity grassland of Shanxi province, whose decreasing order was unutilized grassland, slight utilization grassland, moderate utilization grassland and heavy utilization grassland. And it showed the same trend between ground living biomass and below-ground biomass. The result indicated that change (decreasing order) of litter biomass was moderate utilization grassland, heavy utilization grassland, slight utilization grassland and unutilized grassland. Furthermore, the results also showed that below-ground biomass occupied the highest proportion for 88.21% in heavy utilization grassland, that above-ground biomass accounted the highest proportion for 10.51% in slight utilization grassland, and that litter biomass occupied the highest proportion for 5.30% in moderate utilization grassland. The proportions of carbon storage including soil, root, ground living and litter were 78.67%,19.76%, 1.25% and 0.32% in natural grassland of Shanxi province, respectively. The carbon storage from different part was difference in five grassland types, Shanxi. The results indicated that the value of ground living was between 87.77 g·m-2 and 125.26 g·m-2, that litter was between 18.59 g·m-2 and 28.83 g·m-2, that below-ground root was between 1536.22 g·m-2 and 1812.62 g·m-2, and that soil was between 5529.52 g·m-2 and 7119.34 g·m-2. In addition, soil carbon content accounted for more than 72% of total carbon storage, and the proportion of carbon storage in 0-30 cm soil layer was more than 63% of total carbon storage. The total carbon content was between 5058.15 g·m-2 and 10885.49 g·m-2 in natural grassland using four utilization intensities in Shanxi province. The results showed that vegetation and soil carbon storage were expressed as unutilized grassland, slight utilization grassland, moderate utilization grassland and heavy utilization grassland (decreasing order). Moreover, carbon content had significant difference during four grassland types, which of unutilized grassland was the highest value for 10885.49 g·m-2, slight utilization grassland for 8163.46 g·m-2, moderate utilization grassland for 6852.16 g·m-2 and heavy utilization grassland for 5058.15 g·m-2.
