Berberis iliensis M.Pop. is one of the spiny perennial deciduous shrubs. The plant has ornamental value, edible value and medicinal value, and is resist to cold, drought, and withstand short-cutting and soil alkalization. B. iliensis is very common in Yili Rive Basin, but it is not made full use of. Therefore, this thesis takes B. iliensis as the research object, and studies in the ways of its flower features, breeding system, pollination biology, seed germination and seedling growth characteristics through field observation, regular sampling, artificial experiment in order to provide scientific basis for the sustainable development and artificial domestication cultivation of B. iliensis. The main research results as follows:B. iliensis’ s flowering period is 4-6 month, single flower season is from 7 to 9 days, and fruit development and maturation need 25 to 30 days; the strongest pollen viability is in its early blossoming period; its stigma have receptivity during it is in bud,the strongest pollen viability in early blossoming period; its crossing index(OCI)is 3; P/O(pollen quantity and ovule ratio)is 566.67. Its florescence is long, which is conducive to the full pollination, which makes the flowers bright beautiful, high ornamental value; B. iliensis can be selfing partly, and breeding system belongs to facultative xenogamy, which needs pollinators.B. iliensis’ s setting percentage is 41.5% under the natural condition, and that is relatively low, only 7.5%, through self-pollination, and that is highest, up to 81.5% through artificial xenogamy. Primary pollinators can be Apis mellifera Linn, Mylabris koenigi Dokhtoutoff and Mylabris frolovi Fischer von Waldheim. The breeding system of B. iliensis mainly xenogamy and it need pollinators, which called Mylabris koenigi Dokhtoutoff. Mylabris koenigi Dokhtoutoff has a great effect on B. iliensis, Which not only played a significant role for the pollination fertilization, but also brought big yield loss because its huge foraging amount.B. iliensis’ s seeds have no dormancy, and its germination rate increased gradually with the increase of temperature, and it reaches to highest at a constant temperature of 25℃. Salt water can restrain the seed germination, and the inhibition of NaCl solution was less than that of PEG-6000 solution when B. iliensis seeds germinate. B. iliensis had higher germination percentage without the stress. B. iliensis has the highest germination rate in humus compared with that in other substrates. Under different temperature treatment, the radicle, plumule length and shoot/root of B. iliensis with increasing temperature go up first and then down.Under different concentration NaCl, it only in 50mmol/L NaCl treatment conditions can seedling of B. iliensis survive.
