Study of dielectric behaviors fundamentally effect the measurement of soil contents and physical characteristics, which bring significant influence to the contamination evaluation, the civil constructions stability and the highway performance, etc.. However, study of this problem is historically challenging simply due to the complexity and variety of the materials.Currently there is still much room for understanding the dynamic performance of the moist saline soil dielectric behaviors. Variation of Soil Moisture brings significant influence to the stability of civil constructions, surface subsidence and highway performance. The current existing soil moisture sensors have their own limits on accuracy, cost or applicability. It is proposed to apply with an EM pulsing method to investigate the dielectric behaviors of the moist saline soil sample in an ultra-wideband(UWB) spectrum. An novel soil moisture measuring method using UWB Electromagnetic pulse technique is also proposed here. The dielectric parameters variation in a wideband frequency spectrum can be achieved by analyzing the response signals and thus the water content can be calculated accurately. And the dynamic performance along with the content, structure, saturation and temperature variation can be observed. An UWB pulse antenna transceiving system is designed and measurements are carried out to verify the simulation results of dielectric responses under multi-dispersion effects in both time-domain and frequency-domain. This project will thoroughly study the continuous dielectric behaviors of moist saline soil reposing to a nanosecond pulse signal through a wide band spectrum. A novel UWB pulsing soil sensing method will be established by analyzing the dielectric properties of moist saline soil, which is greatly meaningful to the development of novel soil dielectric sensors.
