Xuyi country is located in the down stream of Huaihe River, different from other areas, the characteristics of soil in Xuyi are adhesiver and loose,so the soil are more susceptible to erosion, and the forest allocation is not scientific, the forest resources distribution is not balanced, young forest is in the majority, forest low aging tendency is serious, forest protection ability is pretty low,and frequent human activities under economic forests had great negative impact on soil and water conservation function, makes ecological environment in Xuyi getting worse, soil and water loss has attracted more and more attention.Associated with the“Three New Forestry Engineering Project”,this paper selects fiv e artificial forestlands in Xuyi Moon Mountain as research objects,Through field investiga tion and experiment, using mathematical statistics, ideal point comprehensive evaluation m ethod to establish the multi-level evaluation index system, evaluates the protection ability o f five artificial forests, the main conclusions are as follows:(1)The litter storage w-ere 5.12~15.31t/hm2,the max water-holding percentage ranged 164.09%~250.76%,the max water-hoolding capacities ranged 8.40~41.18t/hm2,the effective water-hoolding capacities ranged 3.55~28.12t/hm2,from high to low is Populus L forestlands>C eltis sinensis Pers forestlands>Amygdalus persica L. forestlands>Myric-a rubra(Lour.)Zucc forestlands>Cupressus lusitanica forestlands,The dynamic changes in water-holding capaci ty,water-absorbent rate and time of forest litters under different forest types were basically similar. The water holding capacity of litter increased with extension of water immersion and being immersed in water for 24 h,the forest litter usually reached its maximum waterholding capacity, the speed of water-holding capacity and absorption in the first two hours were the best. The maximum moisture content and capill-ary moisture content of Populus L is highest for 1207.30t/hm2 and 8.35mm/min,and the soil water infiltration rate of soil under Populus L forestlands is the highest.(2)In the aspect of soil anti-erodibility: The soil erodibility of five artificial forestlands in Volcanic Hillyland of Xuyi country were studied by measuring and analyzing the characters of soil water-stable aggregates, and organic matter content.Using Principal component analysis(PCA) and correlation analysis to study the anti-erodibility of forest soil under 5 different forestland. The results shows that the soil anti-scouribility indices of different forests have significant difference, the anti-erodibility of Populus L forestland is the best, and there was a significant correlation between soil anti-erodibility and >0.25 mm,>0.5mm water stable aggregates, water stable aggregates fractal dimension, aggregates dispersion rate, soil aggregate stability index, the content of soil organic matter anti-scouribility index and total soil porosity, bulk density, dispersion rate.(3)The ability of soil and water conservation of five artificial forestlands in Xuyi Moon Mountain were analysised systematically in two different levels, and based on hierarchical analysis and TOPSIS analysis method, this paper make a quantitative evaluation of soil and water conservation of five artificial forestlands in Xuyi Moon Mountain. Its functions of the five different artificial forestlands rank as: Populus L forest>Celtis sinensis Pers forest>Amygdalus persica L forest>Myrica rubra(Lour.)Zucc forest>Cupressus lusitanica forest.
