Chili is a kind of themophilic vegetable but not chilling-resistance. It will grow slowly, and the flowers and fruits will drop when the temperature decrease below 10℃, so the temperature is the biggest limiting factor in the process of the growth and development of chili.Low temperature stress often happens as the expansion of cultivated chili area in recent years such as late spring coldness in the South.The farmer will suffer a loss. It is important to reduce farmer’s loss if chilling-resistant inducers can be used in seedlings period of chili. It will be significant to breed new chilling-resistant varieties if we command deeply the mechanism of chilling-resistant in future.2 Chili varieties were used as experimental materials. They were cultivated in the plant growth cabinet after seeds sprouting, then, different concentrations of chilling-resistant inducers were sprayed including Uniconazole, Glycine betaine, Salicilic Acid, ABA, Chitosan to chili seedlings. The plant growed at the conditions of 19℃/12℃ (day/night), 30μmol·m-2·S-1 of illumination intensity for 8h each day, different physiological and chemical indexes were measured. The results were as follows:1 The best concentrations of 5 inducers were determined by measuring the plant height, stem diameter, dry matter weight and chilling-resistant index. The result were best when Uniconazole was 20mg·L-1, Glycine betaine was 10mg·L-1, Salicilic Acid was 1 mg·L/1, ABA was 20mg·L-1 and Chitosan was 50mg·L-1.2 Compared with the controls,5 inducers had the effectiveness of the plant height, stem diameter, dry matter weight and chilling-resistant index, the activities of POD, SOD and CAT, added the contents of soluble proteins, soluble sugars, praline, chlorophyll, and root system vigor enhance, but the content of MDA decreased after 3,6,9 days low temperature disposement. The information presented 5 inducers have the role of descreasing the danger of low temperature. ABA had the best result during 5 inducers.3 measuring single or multi-index of 13 chilling-resistant indexes could reflect the degrees of chilling-resistant of chili. They could be used to detect the chilling-resistance of chili.
