Monopterus albus’s meat is delicious, and nutritious, they’re with a variety of medicinal value and very popular in domestic and foreign markets. For a long time, as people catch wild Monopterus albus excessively and the water environment is polluted, Monopterusalbus fry’s massive occurrence of disease and high mortality in the stocking process, it has been declining it’s natural resources so that it can not meet the market’s needs and export requirements, so Monopterus albus s artificial propagation is imminent, while the gonadal development is the base of Monopterus albus’s breeding. Monopterus albus’s artificialbreeding are successful in sinmany parts of our country. Obtaining the Monopterus albus fry has become a major factor restricting the development of Monopterus albus aquaculture. Because of Monopterus albus s sex reversal, low fecundity, maturation of sync, etc, so that artificial breeding is difficult to obtaina historic breakthrough. In this paper, we use chinese herbal medicine as Monopterus albus’s herbal feed additives, and then feed the Monopterus albus by different concentrations. We use initial tests with an average weight of (41.2±2.3)g female Monopterus albus and initial body weightf(113.5±5.6)g male Monopterus albu for the study. Respectively disposed concentration of herbs containing 3%,4%,5% of the feed surimi. Each group sets 3 repeat, feeding 31d continuously, (10d which is before the training phase of the eclipse without herbs, and add herbs after 21 d of the pilot phase) then exsanguinating dissecting and sampling, comparing the changes of sex hormones, gonadal development and fecundity in Monopterus albus, in order to assess the impact of herbal feed additives on Monopterus albu reproduction. The main sex hormone is testosterone andestradiol measured in Monopterus albus, detected by ELISA kits fish approach:made Monopterus albus s gonads into paraffinsections, and then compared under the microscope, the fecundity in Monopterus albus is according to the relative fecundity and absolute fecundity, using SPSS (Ver.11.5)software to analysis the data, Duncan’s multiple comparison testdifferences between the groups, The main results are as follows:1.(1) Compared with the controled group, herbal feed of broodstock feeding free broodstock blood levels of estradiol and testosterone were significantly higher than with herbal feed(P<0.05), and the content of the broodstock serum estradiol and testosterone concentrations increased with herbs decreased(P<0.05). (2) From the perspective of time, we can congclude that, estradiol levels of female and testosterone levels of male in serum are decreased as the time going on in each groups(P<0.05).2.Compared with the controled group, ovarian development is better in the experimental group fed herbal, most of the oocytes is in the stage of III-VI, oocytes in ovary are round orpolygon and have regular shape. Partially coated eggs in the ovaries have been discharged, even empty follicular membrane appears. Gonad index of ovary is higher than controled group and with the increasing concentration of herbal ovarian index is increasesed. Concentration of 5% in the experimental group gonad herbal is the largest. Through observing the slice, most intersex gonads are in the stage of Ⅱ in the Monopterus albus which are fed chinese herbal medicine, their gonad are strip and we can’t see eggs by eyes. There are only a small amount of stage Ⅱ oocytes in the gonad, and their nucleus have been deviated, nuclear membrane is unclear, part of the nucleolus are disintegrated or even vacuoles, and there is a phenomenon of nucleolar efflux. Spermatogonia developed into compact capsule, most compact capsule distributed in the gap of connective tissue. Some germ cells in the compact capsule have developed into primary spermatocytes. By observing the feeding herbal experimental group and controled group testis biopsy we can conclude that, along with the development of the testis, male germ cells experience the process of from spermatogonia to sperm, With the increase of the concentration of herbs, testis of Monopterus albus become changed, in the 5% experimental group, most testis are in the stage of Ⅳ~Ⅵ, and there are a mount of mature sperm cells and spermatocytes, however, in the 3%,4%,5% experimental group, we found the development of testis is relatively slower. It shows that herbs can promote the development of ovaries, intersexual gonad and testis in Monopterus albus’s.3.Compared with the controled group, the fecundity of feeding herbal group significantly increased, nomater the relative fecundity or absolute fecundity are all increased with the increasing concentrations of herbal, and 5% herbal concentration in the experimental group fecundity is significantly higher than the controled group. From the perspective of time, the relative fecundity and absolute fecundity in female Monopterus albus are all increased with the passage of time, and at the first 31d appears peak.
