Seeds of nine kinds of Elymus sibiricus L.collected from different regions of China were taken as experimental material to study the effect of different water stress, salt stress on the germination and physiology characteristics. In order to provide basis for the introduction and acclimatization of Elymus sibiricus L. The ability of stress resistance was evaluated by subordination function method. The main results were as follow:1. With the PEG concentration increasing, relative germination rates, relative germination potentials, relative radicle length, relative plumule length took the trend of dropping and different provenance showed different lower amplitude. With the intensification of the degree of drought stress, MDA contents, Pro contents, relative electrolyte leakage increase; and chlorophyll contents, SOD activity of Elymus sibiricus L. decrease after rising with drought stress gradient. Light drought stress promotes chlorophyll contents, SOD activity for some materials. With the salt concentration,relative germination rates,relative germination potentials, relative radicle length and relative plumule length took the trend of dropping. Light salt stress promoted relative germination rates and relative germination potentials for some materials(E03, E08). Under different salt concentration, relative water contents of leaves of Elymus sibiricus L. were decreased with NaCl concentration increasing. While MDA contents, Pro contents and relative electrolyte leakage of leaves of Elymus sibiricus L. was rised. SOD, chlorophyll contents of Elymus sibiricus L. were decreased after rising with increasing salt concentration.2. Under drought stress, each germination index was extremely negative correlated(P<0.01). The Pro contents and relative water contents, the relative electrolyte leakage and relative water contents were extremely significant negative correlated(P<0.01). MDA contents and SOD activity were extremely significant positive correlated(P<0.01). The MDA contents and the Pro contents were significant positive correlated(P<0.05), The MDA contents and relative water contents were significant positive correlated(P<0.05). The relative electrolyte leakage, SOD activity, Pro contents and MDA contents were significant positive correlated(P<0.05).Under salt stress, The Pro contents and relative water contents, the relative electrolyte leakage, MDA contents were extremely significant negative correlated(P<0.01). The relative electrolyte leakage and chlorophyll contents were extremely negative correlated(P<0.01). The MDA contents and Pro contents were significant positive correlated(P<0.05).3. Based on the meebership function method, the tolerance of drought stress of studied nine germplasm materials decrease in the following order: E05, E06, E03, E04, E07, E08, E02, E09, E01.Based on the meebership function method, the salt stress tolerance of these studied nine germplasms materials decreased in the following order: E03, E06, E08, E04, E07, E02, E05, E01, E09.In nine kinds of germplasms materials, Xie Jiagou Urumqi Xinjiang, Litang county ganzi prefecture Sichuan province and Gongzhuling Jilin Province showed a better tolerance in drought and salt resistance. Three germplasms materials could be used as high quality candidates and new genotypes, which bear salt and drought, for selecting and breeding better to research Elymus sibiricus L..
