Min pig is an old local breeding in Northeast, occupying a pivotal position in the local farming industry. Improving the performance has a great practical significance for promoting the development of Min pig farming industry. Min pig is studied by this test launching a series of studies in arginine’s application in Min pig breeding was in order to provide effective technical support to promote the rapid development of Min pig farming industry.Twelve Min pig sows in 45 th day of gestation were equally divided into 2 groups(I and II), each with six sows. Group I was fed with basal diet and Group II was fed with basal diet supplemented with 1% Arg. The farrowing data of the sows were recorded. Activity of plasma total nitric oxide synthase(TNOS), inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS) and concentration of nitrogen monoxide(NO) of Min Pig sows gestation 90 d and piglets after 8h birth were determined, and concentration of total protein(TP), albumin(ALB), globulin(GLOB) and urea(UREA) of piglets after 8h birth were determined. Concentration of free amino acid of plasma of sows and newborn piglets were determined. Concentration of free amino acid of sow colostrum was determined. Intestinal morphology of newborn piglets was observed, and the expression levels of intestinal IL-2 gene were determined. The results showed below:1. Compared with group I, in group II with Arg, the weight of piglets and live litter birth weight of piglets were both improved, which was 0.35kg(P>0.05) and 2.77kg(P>0.05) higher than that of the control group. The number of pigs born was increased by 0.36(P>0.05), and the number of pigs born alive was increased by 2.33(P>0.05). The percent of pigs born was improved significantly by 18.76%(P<0.05), and the percent of litter was decreased significantly by 7.13%(P<0.05).2. The activity of TNOS, i NOS and concentration of NO of sows all had an increasing tendency but had no significant difference, and the activity of plasma TNOS, concentration of NO of piglets after 8h birth all had an increasing tendency but had no significant difference, except the i NOS of piglets, which was improved significantly(P<0.01).3. The concentration of plasma TP, ALB and GLOB in newborn piglets had an increasing tendency but had no significant difference, except the UREA, which was decreased significantly(P<0.05).4. The concentrations of sow colostrum ornithine, glutamine, glycine, phenylalanine, serine, methionine, phenylalanine and so on had an increasing tendency but had no significant difference(P>0.05), except citrulline, which was significantly increased(P<0.05), and arginine, tryptophan and isoleucine were significantly increased(P<0.01). The concentrations of plasma of sows on 90 d of gestation ornithine, citrulline, glutamine, glycine, tryptophan, isoleucine, phenylalanine and so on had an increasing tendency but had no significant difference(P>0.05), but the concentration of arginine was increased significantly, which was improved significantly by 70.63%(P<0.05), and the concentrations of methionine and alanine had an decreased tendency. The concentrations of plasma of piglets ornithine, citrulline, glutamine, tryptophan, isoleucine, phenylalanine, serine and so on had an increasing tendency but had no significant difference(P>0.05), except arginine, histidine and tyrosine, which were significantly increased(P<0.05), and the concentrations of glycine was significantly increased(P<0.01). Besides the concentrations of methionine, alanine and lysine were decreased, but the difference was not significant(P>0.05).5. Duodenum villus length and villus width of newborn piglets from group II were increased slightly compared to those from group I, showing insignificant difference(P>0.05). The ratio of villus length and crypt depth in group II was significantly higher than that of group I(P<0.05), but crypt depth was significantly lower(P<0.05). Jejunum villus width was enhanced but no significant difference(P>0.05). The villus length and ratio of villus length and crypt depth were increased by 22.89% and 64.15% respectively, and crypt depth decreased by 37.12%(P<0.05). Ileum villus width was increased slightly and no significant difference(P>0.05). The villus length and ratio of villus length and crypt depth were dramatically increased by 34.38% and 86.75% respectively, and crypt depth was decreased by 40.63%(P<0.01).6. Compared to group I, the expression levels of IL-2 gene in duodenum from group II was obviously increased(P<0.05), and the expression levels of IL-2 gene in jejunum was significantly increased(P<0.01). While gene expression of the ileum was increased slightly without significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusion:Dietary supplementation with arginine promoted the farrowing performance of Min Pig sows and the utilization of protein, and could help improve the immune system and promote intestinal development of newborn piglets.
