Exogenous SA can alter the yield and artemisinin content of Artemisia annua, but the mechanism is not clear. In this article, an experiment is conducted the effects of spraying SA at the seedling stage and prosperous stage respectively on the changes of physiological and biochemical characteristics of Artemisia annua. Spraying the same volume of water is the control group. The purpose is to provide a theoretical basis about improving the yield of Artemisia annua and the collection of artemisinin after spraving SA in the artificial cultivated.The main results are as follows:Spraying SA has a great impact on the growth rate of Artemisia annua.In the seedling treatment, SA can increase basal stalk diameter, the growth rate of leaves and shoots. In prosperous treatment, SA can greatly accelerate the growth rate of plant height, leaves and primary shoots; but inhibit the growth of secondary shoots.In the seedling treatment, SA improved the root activity significantly, developed root system. But it has no effect in prosperous stage treatment.In the seedling group, SA can increase CAT activity and inhibit POD activity, low concentration can increase PPO activity and high concentration inhibits its activity. In the other period group, SA enhanced CAT activity greatly, low concentration increased POD activity, exceeds certain concentration and inhibited; each concentration could increase the activity of PPO, but only slightly.It was almost the same about the changes of endogenous IAA, GA, ZT contents in each group at seedling stage and ABA content has significant inhibitory effect. The low concentrations inhibited CTK content and the high concentration increased it. For the prosperous stage treatment, SA has little effect on the contents of ABA and IAA, the contents of GA, CTK and ZT were significantly inhibited.There was a big different about the harvest biomass of Artemisia annua after spraying SA. In addition to height, the basal stalk diameter, leaves, primary shoots, secondary shoots were significantly increased in seedling group. And it was higher than the change in prosperous stage treatment. The impact of primary shoots was not obvious, but also suppresses the growth of secondary shoots in the other period deal.SA increased production of Artemisia annua and the percentage of artemisinin content in seedling period deal group, and the higher the concentration the more obvious. But it was that SA reduced production of Artemisia annua and the percentage of artemisinin content in the other period group.In the related aspect, in the seedling stage treatment, the artemisinin content has certain positive correlations with some indexes, include root activity, root length, total root surface area, the total number of tips, plant height, leaves number, secondary shoots and plant yield.But artemisinin content with IAA, ABA content was negatively correlated. In the other period treatment, there was a widespread positive relationship between artemisinin content and root morphology, chlorophyll content and endogenous hormones content.As a conclusion, with the deal of SA at seedling period of Artemisia annua, it can accelerate the growth of Artemisia annua, increased root activity and photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content, coordinate the balance of Artemisia annua honnone levels and the ratio of NPK, improve the aboveground biomass yield and artemisinin content. Conversely, it can inhibit the normal growth of Artemisia annua and decreased the yield and artemisinin content. Therefore, spraying SA at seedling period is the optimal suggestion.
