Empoasca onukii Matsuda is an important pest insect damaging tea plant in Shaanxi planattion. In this study, five sampling methods, field investigating methods and yellow card trapping methods were adopted. The population dynamics of E. onukii in three tea varieties, the activity rhythm in field and the influence of temperature, humidity and solar radiation on the population dynamics of this pest, effects of yellow trapping card against this pest and its main predator and the field efficacy on three botanical pesticides on E. onukii were studied. The following results were obtained:1. The occurrence tendency of adult of E. onukii is nearly accord with that of nymph in Shaanxi tea plantation, all present double-peak type, the first peak is from mid to late June that is prosperous period of E. onukii in field. The period from the end of September to the mid of October is the second peak but lower than the first peak. The population quantity of the adult and nymph of E. onukii and were positively correlated in Ziyang(R=0.777,P<0.01), Fuding(R=0.740,P<0.01) and Nanjiang varieties(R=0.751,P<0.01).2. The peak activity time of E. onukii is 8:00 am and 6:00 pm at daytime in Shaanxi tea plantation, adult and nymph all accord with this time regularity.3. The population dynamics of E. onukii was significantly affected by temperature, humidity and solar radiation in the field. It is more suitable for the breeding of E.onukii when the average temperature in the field was 19.5~23.7 degrees centigrade, when the average relative humidity over 80% and when the average solar radiation amount is lower.4. In Shaanxi tea plantation, the population of E. onukii trapped by card at 30 cm above tea tree crown significantly outnumber at other heights(p<0.05). Spider natural enemies trapped at 20 cm below tea tree crown significantly outnumber at other heights(p<0.05). It is suggested that yellow card to be set at 30 cm above tea tree crown during the occurrence period of Empoasca onukii in Shaanxi tea plantation.5. 0.3% matrine AS 6.75g?hm-2 was more sustainable and effective against E.(M.) onukii compared with 0.5% veratrine SL 9.00g?hm-2 and 0.3% nimbin EC 6.75g?hm-2. Further research indicated that the use of 0.3% matrine AS at 4.50g~9.00g?hm-2 had almost the same control effects as 2.5% cyhalothrin ME at 15.00g?hm-2 against E.(M.) onukii. It is recommended to use 0.3% matrine AS at 4.50g~9.00g?hm-2 to control E.(M.) onukii in Shaanxi tea plantation.
