In this paper, a facile physico-mixing method was present to prepare thermo-sensitivehydrogels with raw material CS and HPMC. Factors that influenced the gel temperaturesuch as pH value, its dosage and the concentrations of NaHCO3were studied. The optimalforming conditions were obtained. To determine the basic rules and characteristics of the erosion dynamics of the hydrogel, the HPMC/CS hydrogels erosion dynamics data were measured. The FTIR results indicatedthat HPMC molecules were physically entangled inside the CS networks. From the result ofthe SEM photographs, the shape and structure of the HPMC/CS hydrogels were obtained, alsothe result showed that all the gels had porous structures and the structure of the drug-loadedhydrogel was more compact than that of the drug-free hydrogel.Based on the blank hydrogel, water-soluble drug with small molecule5-fluorouracil(5-Fu) and insoluble drug daidzein (DZ) as model drugs were entrapped into the hydrogel toinvestigate the drug release characteristics of gel. The release behavior of5-Fu and DZ fromhydrogel related to the drug loading rate and the components of the hydrogel. Several classicmathematical models were used to fit the drug release curves.According to the fitting results, the drug release mechanism were studied.
