Abstract/Summary:
ObjectiveTo study the radiographic characteristics of pulmonary mucormycosis in patientswith and without acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).Material and methods33patients diagnosed pulmonary mucormycosis by fungal culture wereretrospectively studied. Their chest X-ray or/and CT scan data were analysed. Thepatients were categorized into two groups for further studied: AIDS group (n=24) andnon-AIDS group (n=9). The imaging menifestations were observed, which includingdistribution, quantity, shape, size, density and boundary of nidus in lung, lymph nodes, interstitial changes.ResultsThe general imaging appearance found in both two groups are including increasedbronchovascular shadows, airspace consolidation, pulmonary nodules, ground-glassattenuation, pneumatocele, enlarged hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes, pleural effusionet al.. Airspace consolidation were significantly more common in nonAIDS group thanin AIDS group (p=0.032). Pulmonary nodules were significantly less common in AIDSgroup than in AIDS group (p=0.039). ConclusionsThe imaging appearances of pulmonary mucormycosis were various. Theinflammatory response were more obvious.in pulmonary mucormycosis of patientswithout AIDS the pulmonary nodules were the characteristics of pulmonarymucormycosis in patients with AIDS.
