Objective: The aim of this study was to preliminarily investigate the Th1/Th2imbalances different types and different stages of autoimmune thyroid disease (HTand GD) by determining serum levels of chemokines. I hope to provide new ideas forthe diagnosis and treatment of AITD.Methods: A total of60autoimmune thyruiditis;60Graves disease patients;20nontoxic multinodular goiter patients and20healthy controls were objects of thisstudy. The four groups were similar in gender distribution and age. Prior to samplecollection, all of the subjects were informed the process and purpose about thisresearch. In all subjects we compared the levels of CXCL10、CCL22and the ratioamong four groups and analyzing the correlation CXCL10、CCL22or the ration oftwo between AITD and TT3、TT4、FT3、FT4、TSH、TPOAb、TGAb、TRAb、ESR、CRP and the thyroid volume. Results: Patients with AITD showed higher levels of serum CXCL10、CCL22and the ratio compared with the Nontoxic nodular goiter patients and healthy controls(P﹤0.05), the latter two had no significant statistical difference; patients with GD(the course within3months) showed significant higher levels of serum CCL22andlower ratio than HT patients, but the levels of CXCL10had no significant statisticaldifference between them; after drug therapy, there were reduction in levels ofchemokines and ratio in AITD, but still higher than healthy controls; to the disease asthe dependent variable, chemokines as covariates of Logistic regression, CXCL10and CCL22were entered into the equation, and the OR values are positive.Significant positive correlations were shown between CXCL10、CCL22or the ratioand TPOAb、TGAb、TRAb、ESR、CRP and the thyroid volume. After removal of thecontrol groups, correlation between TRAb and chemokine is more obvious, and inHT, the relevance between chemokine and TPOAb, TGAb is more pronounced. Conclusion: The results indicate that both Th1and Th2be involved in the morbidityof AITD, but Th1had absolute predominance. There was some difference about Th1Th2imbalances between HT and GD, the latter showed more obvious Th2dysimmunity. Th1Th2imbalances resumed more tangible in patients with GD aftertreatment. And after drug treatment, Th1/Th2balance recovery are more evident inGD patients compared with HT. Chemokines are risk factors for the onset of AITD.
