Objective To provide anatomical basis for repairing the skin defect about lateralplantar. Methods The anatomic study was carried out on35sides of adult cadaveric foot whichwere perfused with red emulsion. With the help of operation microscope (×10), weobserved the vessel which is the anastomosis of arterial arch at the superior border of hallucalabductor and the medial branch of deep branch of medial plantar artery, and then measuredits location, diameter, length. Results The anastomosis of arterial arch at the superior border of hallucal abductorand deep branch of medial plantar artery at the medial border of the medial cuneiform bonewhich we named the medial foot arch artery. The frequency of the medial foot arch artery was82.8%(29cases).The external diameter was (0.65±0.21)mm.The longth was(26.32±7.14)mm. There were not the medial foot arch artery in six cases. The frequency was17.2%.Conclusion The medial plantar island flap pedicled with the medial foot arch arterycan be used to repair the skin defect about lateral plantar. Not only for the skin defect aboutlateral plantar provides a new choice, but also expanded the idea to make the application ofmedial island flap is more diverse and flexible.
