Objectives: To study the clinical effect of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty(PTA)in the treatment of arteriosclerosis obliterans.Methods:1.We retrospectively analysed53patients of vascular surgery inThe FirstAffiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University who gotathero sclerosis Obliterans andunderwent percutaneous transluminal angioplasty treatment between March2005toJune2013.During the hospitalization,we recorded their medical condition, clinical(Fontaine) staging and postoperativec omplications. After they discharged from hospital, they were followed-up for one year to record their Clinical staging and postoperativepatency.2.The patients with atheroscler osisobliterans who combing with type IIdiabetes had their special clinical characteristics. It was reportedthat diabetes was anindependent factor Increasing the recurrence risk after surgical intervention[1].Weretrospectively analysed26patients of vascular surgery in our hospital who gotatherosclerosis obliterans and type II diabetes underwent percutaneous transluminalangioplasty treatment between March2005to June2013.During the hospitalization, we recorded their medical condition, diabetes patient’s blood sugar controlled situation, clinical (Fontaine) staging of arteriosclerosis obliterans and postoperative complicationswith one year observation after hospital discharge.Results:1.The ankle-brachial index(ABI) of53patients before the surgery was0.11-0.68(mean0.36±0.13).The mean ABI measured two days after the treatmentincreased from0.36±0.13to0.83±0.15significantly. The difference was statisticallysignificant(P<0.05).Postoperative patency rate was98%.Clinical symptoms of patientssuch as the patients’ anterior and posterior tibial artery pulse can’t be felt, the skintemperature of limb extremities was low, skin was pale or cyanotic had a significantimprovement in comparison with the pre-surgery. The group of53patients followed upfor50cases, lost three cases, patency rate after one year was89.4%(76/85).2. In thegroup of26patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans disease combined type II diabetes, the mean ABI measured two days after the treatment increased from0.24±0.11to0.92±0.21significantly. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Postoperative patency rate was96.2%. The clinical symptoms had a significantimprovement. The group of26patients followed up for25cases, lost one case, patency rate after one year was88%(37/42), limb salvage rate was100%(25/25).Conclusion: The average age of patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans was older.Generally, their general condition is poor and can’t tolerate surgical risk. Percutaneoustransluminal angioplasty in the treatment of the arteriosclerosis obliterans disease waseffective, which has characteristics such as less serious complacation and less invasiveand rapid postopertive recovery and higher limb salvage rate in the treatment of patientswith arteriosclerosis obliterans disease combined type II diabetes. Therefore, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty can be the preferred treatment for patients witharteriosclerosis obliterans disease and arteriosclerosis obliterans combined diabetes. However, long term treatment needs further observation.
