Objective:To investigate whether there are deferences between the Bell’s palsy patients and the healthy people in the acupoints’ electrical properties. To find out the correlation-ship between the dynamic change in the acupoints’ characterisation and in deferent Bell’s palsy pathological stages and deferent TCM syndromes, in order to provide experimental and scientific evidence for the study of the acupoints’ specificity from a new angle, and determine whether we will be able to use the dynamic changes of acupoint electrical characterisation for clinical treatment and prognosis for acupuncture treatment of facial paralysis.Research programs:The study use a prospective cohort method, the subjects were divided into the control group and Bell’ s palsy measurement group, conducted mainly in Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming and Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming acupoints’resistance detection, to measure the patients’ symptom scores, and detect the skin impedance at acupuncture points by the acupoints’ resistance detector at the certain time, and compare the acupoints’ electrical skin impedance with the healthy people at the meantime, totally for4weeks. Then counted the resulting data, analyzed whether there for statistical significance of differences between the groups and within groups before and after comparison.Results:1. The electrical skin impedance at acupuncture points were significantly different between the contralateral side and the ipsi lateral side in different pathological stages of Bell’s palsy patients, the ipsilateral one increased; there were no significant differences between the contralateral side of Bell’ s palsy measurement group and healthy control group in the same meridian acupoints’elsctrical skin impedance. 2. During the study, both sides’resistance keep in balance, and there was no significant fluctuation in the acupoints’resistance of the healthy control group on both sides, and so does the uninvolved side of the Bell’s palsy patients.3. After treatment, each of Bell’s palsy facial paralysis in patients with signs and symptoms score and quantify social function scores were improved, showing symptoms of facial paralysis quantitative score and social functioning score decreased, physical function score increased.4. At the stable phase of the Bell’s palsy patients, Yifeng, Ying Xiang points, Hegu, Chongyang points’electrical skin impedance are higher than the uninvolved sides, there were no significant difference between both sides at the4th week.5. At the recover period of the Bell’s palsy, there were significant differnce at Yifeng, Yingxiang, Hegu points between the uninvolved and contralateral side at the first3weeks. Only Yingxiang points were obvious diferent at both sids, after3weeks’treatment.6. All of the five acupoints existed significant difference between the healthy side and the palsy side at the sequelae stage of the Bell’s palsy; there were still significant deference at the Yingxiang, Hegu, Zusanli and Chongyang point after two week’s treatment. Three weeks later, the acupoints’ resistance of Chongyang still had deference between both sides.7. Each phase and each TCM syndrome of the Bell’s palsy patients with ipsilateral, the acupoints’skin resistance were higher than Uninvolved side, with symptomatic relieved, the resistance of the corresponding points were also correspondingly reduced.8. During the4times’detections, the wind-cold syndrome patients’resistance had significant deference at Yifeng, Yingxiang and Hegu acupoints at the1st and the3rd week; besides these3acupoints, there was still significant deference at Zusanli acupoint at the2nd week; only Hegu’s acupoint’s resistance was obviously deferent on both sides at the4th week.9. At the first2weeks, there were significant deferences at Yifeng, Yixiang, Hegu and Chongyang acupoints; after2weeks’ treatment, significant deferences still existed at Yingxiang, Hegu and Chongyang acupoints. At the last week, Yingxiang and Chongyang acupoints’resistance were still obviously deferent. 10. All of the detected acupoints’resistance were obviously deferent at the first two weeks;after2weeks, the significant deferences still existed at these acupoits, except Yifeng acupoint; the acupoints’ resistance of Hegu, Zusanli and Chongyang were significantly deferent at the last week.11. Each phase and syndrome of the Bell’s palsy patients with ipsilateral, the acupoints’skin resistance were higher than Uninvolved side, with symptomatic relieved, the resistance of the corresponding points were also correspondingly reduced.12. In the time correlation analysis of each phase ang syndrome of the Bell’s palsy patients, the acupoint resistance were negatively correlated with time, resistance decreased after treatment. At the erlier stage, the resistance decreased dramatically, the course later the flutuationg was smaller.13. At the time correlation analysis of wind-cold syndrome of the Bell’s palsy patients, Yifeng, Hegu acupoints’resistance decreased significantly; the syndrome of wind-heat one, Yixiang and Chongyang acuponts’resistance decreased obviously, the qi and blood deficiency syndrome patients, Yifeng and Yingxiang acupoints were statistically at the involved side of the patients.Conelusion1. The healthy people’s acupoints’resistance keep in balance at both side, the electrical characterisation of the acupoints are different, compared with the Bell’s palsy patients and the healthy people.2. When the pathological stages of the Bell’s palsy change, the acupoints’electrical characterisation change as well.
