| Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the psychological health of firstvisit orthodontic patients.According to the survey learning about patients’ subjectivelevel of demand for orthodontic treatment, understanding the feasibility and necessityof psychological evaluation in clinic.Study the relationship between psychologicalhealth status and orthodontic treatment need of first visit clinical orthodonticpatients,help professional people understand patients’ psychological demand, easy tomake effective communication with them.Method: Collect orthodontic clinical patients first visit to department oforthodontics,stomatological hospital in Henan Province from april2013.1)Grouppeople by age and investigate their psychological health by questionnaire for generalpsychological assessment: adolescent group (≤18years old) with Mental HealthInventory of Middle-school Students (MMHI-60),adult group (>18years old)withSymptom Checklist90(SCL-90), respectively test their psychological healthstate;2)Survey the subjective level of demand for orthodontic treatment: gathersubjective assessment of Orthodontic Treatment Need independently byquestionnaire;3)Objectively evaluate the need of orthodontic treatment of patientswith IOTN.Results: Collected132patients, the adolescent group64people, adult groups48people, after analysis:1)among the patients,12.5%adolescents and29.4%adults have mild to moderatepsychological problems.The rate of the adult group is bigger than the adolescentgroup’s, the difference is statistically significant;9.5%male patients and26.7%female patients with psychological problems, is dominated by mild to moderate, andthe proportion of women with psychological problems of this research object isgreater than the male, the difference is statistically significant.2)80.3%of the patients’ self-rated AC result as no or mild need of orthodontictreatment,during which the no need ones accounted for36.4%,while only1.5%ofpatients’ self-rated DHC result as no need of orthodontic treatment; The objective evaluation of AC reflect that patients without need of orthodontic treatment is nomore than13.6%,while the objective evaluation of DHC is that all of the patients arein need of orthodontic treatment in different degrees,78.8%of these patients are verymuch and desperately need orthodontic treatment.3) There is no statistically significant correlation between the psychological factorsof the research object and the objective evaluation of DHC level(P>0.05).4)There is statistically significant correlation between the psychological factors of theresearch object and SAC (P<0.05).Conclusions:1)In the first time clinical orthodontic patients, more adults withpsychological problems than adolescents, more women than men.The psychologicalhealth level of research object is basicly close to the national norms, andpsychological symptoms of the problem seems to be express at a certain lowerlevel.2) The self evaluation of patients is with a marked tendency lower than objectiveevaluation, DHC assessment score is higher than AC assessment, DHC score canreflect the occlusal problems better than the AC score in the evaluation of clinicalorthodontic treatment need.Henan provincial government should regulate the healthservices and health insurance system,so to provide the necessary subsidies fororthodontic patients.3) The research data can not ascertain the severity of the deformities is linearlyrelated with psychological status in patients.4) The psychological status of patients infect their evaluation of orthodontic needs ina certain of degree. |
