Objective:According to changes in the integral of main dysmenorrheal symptoms, VAS and the nine Chinese medical symptoms, evaluate the short-term and long-term efficacy of umbilicus treatment with herbal medicine combined with needle warming moxibustion in treating primary dysmenorrhea with the type of cold-damp stagnation. Methods:This is a randomized,parallel-group clinical trial.Forty primary dysmenorrheal patients of cold-damp stagnation type who met diagnostic criteria, inclusion and exclusion criteria of the subject were chosen from Nanjing University of TCM and Jiangsu Province Hospital of TCM. They were randomly assigned to two groups, with20in the control group,and20in the treatment group.Control group:Treated patients with needle warming moxibustion using acupoints Guanyuan(RN4) and Sanyinjiao(SP6) per day.Treatment began from3days before the menstrual cycle to the3rd day of the cycle. One menstrual cycle is a course of treatment.Treated for three menstrual cycles. Treatment groups:Used umbilicus treatment with herbal medicine on the basis of needle warming moxibustion.Grinded the Chinese medicine, added vaseline and ginger juice to furnish paste shape.Made the size approximately2.0cm*2.0cm, thick approximately1.5crn. And then sticked them on the acupoint Shenque(RN8) for2-4hours per day.Use SPSS19.0to compare the difference among the3groups.The Case Report Form including the integral of main dysmenorrheal symptoms, the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and the nine Chinese medical symptoms were filled by patients every menstrual cycle till the3rd month after treatment. Results:Efficacy evaluation for two groups of patients after three months at the end of treatment showed that in treatment group2cases were clinical cured,7cases were markedly effective,10cases were effective,1case was ineffective, total effective rate was95%; in control group, clinical cure0case,markedly effective4cases, effective in13cases, ineffective in3cases, total effective rate of85%. By statistical tests, there is a significant difference of the efficiency of the two groups (P<0.05).Both the control group and the treatment group show remarkable relief pain in primary dysmenorrhea with the type of cold-damp stagnation. In clinical treatment efficacy, the integral of main dysmenorrheal symptoms, VAS, and the nine Chinese Medical symptoms, of the treatment group are better than those of control group. The two groups have significant difference,(P<0.05).For the3months after treatment, treatment group show better long-term efficacy that reduced the relapse rate(P<0.05).Both methods have positive effects in primary dysmenorrhea. The final finding is that method using umbilicus treatment with herbal medicine combine with needle warming moxibustion can improve the physiological constitution of cold-damp stagnation. Conclusions:Comparing with the warming needle moxibustion, the umbilicus therapy combined with warming needle moxibustion not only alleviates the symptoms., but also reduces the relapse rate. It’s simple,non-toxic side effects and easy to popularize. Both the short-term and long-term curative effect are reliable and the specimen concurrently governs.
