Objective: To observe the alterations of STRAP and Smad7expression in the brain of epileptic rat induced by lithiumchloride-pilocarpine in different time courses, so as to explore the roles ofSTRAP and Smad7in the occurrence of temporal lobe epilepsy.Methodes: Sixty healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats wererandomly divided in to six groups: normal control group(n=10) and fiveexperimental subgroups:24hours(n=10),72hours(n=10),1week(n=10),1month(n=10) and2months(n=10) after onset of epilepsy induced bylithium chloride-pilocarpine. Expression of STRAP and Smad7wasexamed in the hippocampus and temporal lobe cortex of lithiumchloride-pilocarpine induced epilepsy rats by using Western blot andimmunohistochemistry. Results: The expression levels of STRAP and Smad7weresignificantly decreased in24hours,72hours(acute stage),1week(latentstage),1month,2months(chronic stage),respectively, in the rat modelscompared with the control rats(P<0.05).Conclusion: STRAP and Smad7proteins might be involved in the development of temporal lobe epilepsy via TGFβ signaling pathway.
