Objective:To studying the clinical features and prognostic factors ofchildren’s idiopathic acute transverse myelitis. Methods:Data of75patients which are firstly diagnosed in Children’shospital of Chongqing Medical University is collected. The clinical featuresand prognosis are analyzed retrospectively.Results:(1)In our study, the distribution of age at time of onset is bimodal. itseems to be two peaks of incidence, which is between age1and age4andbetween age9and age13.(2)all patients have different degrees of paralysis.59percent of whichhas sensory abnormity and80percent of which has autonomic dysfunction;ACTM is the mainly form of idiopathic acute transverse myelitis inchildren.(3)Most of the patients’ spinal MRI shows long segment lesions with amean segment length of9.67in children patients. And cervical lesion inspinal MRI is more common when APTM happens.(4)The prognosis of children’s idiopathic acute transverse myelitis is better than adults.Factors associated with poor outcome are spinal shock(P=0.001),the duration of spinal shock beyonds two weeks(P=0.015),lowscore of maximal neurologic defect [(9.25±0.89) vs (14.03±2.87),(P=0.000)],plateau period beyonds12days (P=0.004),the time to maximaldefect less than24hours (P=0.029),fever in initial stage (P=0.029),andfemale (P=0.021).(5)Corticosteroids is benefit to restoring neurologic function. Conclusion: The main symptoms of idiopathic acute transversemyelitis are weakness, sensory loss and autonomic dysfuction.Identifyingthe factors associated with poor outcome as sooner as possible is benefit topreliminary evaluation and ative treatment.
