Objective:To investigate the prognosis, survival rate and their affecting factors of the patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) treatment alone. Methods:Clinical information of197cases with HCC of Barcelona clinical stage B was retrospectively analyzed. The cases had received TACE therapy alone in our hospital, from February,2007to January,2013. All patients were followed-up from February,2007to July,2013through rehospitalization and Outpatient reexamination or phone calls, the prognostic and survival analysis was conducted out according to their clinical information. Results:In all cases, the median follow-up time was12(6~77)months and the median survival was24.28(2~77) months. All patients with1,3, and5years the overall survival rate were71%,37%and20%, respectively. The survival rate of patients with Child-Pugh class A was obviously better than that of class B (35months vs15months,p<0.001).The survival rate of patients with Barcelona clinic liver stage B1was significantly better than that of patients with stage B2, B3and B4, the median survival were35,25,9and7months respectively (p<0.001).However there is no significant difference between the different gender, age, nation, pathogenesis (history of hepatitis, the status of hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis virus replication), TACE times and AFP levels. Conclusion:Survival rate of HCC patients with BCLC stage B was significantly improved after TACE treatment; therefore, the BCLC staging and Child-Pugh classification can predict the prognosis and survival rate of patients. The main affecting factors of TACE treatment were health state of patients, tumor size and state of liver function.
