Objective To provided scientific basis and comprehensive intervene measurements for prevention and control of the incidence of occupational injuries, the occupational injury characteristics in mechanics manufacturing industry in Jiading was studied, the occupational injury mechanism and the possible risk factors of occupational injury in this mechanics manufacturing industry were investigated. Methods According to registration form of occupational injuries in the factory, we retrospectively reviewed1983registered occupational injuries in the mechanics manufacturing industry during the period of2005to2010. The characteristics of accidents and main causes were analyzed. The case-control study was applied to examine the difference on characteristics and occupational factors among injured and control. The questionnaire survey was done by the factory doctor. Investigation includes gender, date of birth, and level of education, marital status, registered permanent residence, drinking and smoking behavior, and type of job title, work experience, height, weight, monthly income, health status, sleep condition, and description of industrial injury events. The mean, constituent ratio and frequency distributions were used to describe epidemical characteristic. The risk factors of occupational injury were analyzed by Single factor and Multi-factor non-conditional Logistic regression model. Results There were1983cases of occupational injuries during the period of2005to2010. The incidence of occupational injuries was8.0%. The occupational injuries cases were mainly males with aged20to29years. The top injuries were machine injury(91.2%) and upper limbs was the major body part injured(89.6%). The most frequent types of the injuries were fracture and crush(62.0%).The cardinal injury causes were violation of operating instructions, and fault of equipment or implement. The married worker had low injuries risk according to Single factor logistic regression analysis on the influence factors of occupational injuries, and male workers, non-local residents, temporary and migrant workers, workers with bad smoking and drinking behavior had high risk. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that injuries occur with high risk among workers who were non-local residents or had history of drinking, inattention in the past week and bad sleep quality in the past week. Oppositely, married worker had a low risk of injury occurrence. Conclusion Occupational injuries in the mechanics manufacturing industry must have the characteristics with its specific time period, type, nature and site distributions. The risk factors of occupational injuries are diversity in mechanics manufacturing industry. The workers, who were non-local residents, had history of drinking, inattention in the past week and bad sleep quality in the past week, tend to be occurring injuries. According to these analysis, comprehensive interventions are needed for prevention and control of occupational injuries in the mechanics manufacturing industry. The leader, the occupational doctors and workers should work together and pay more attention to the safety education and safety supervision. The work at least should cover strictly carrying out technical training, carefully checking-up protective equipment in workplace; effectively improving the level of awareness of occupational safety, correcting the attitude of the occupational safety, avoiding unsafe operation, establishing a scientific and unified reporting system. Meantime, the cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analysis for occupational safety and health should be further explored.
