Objective:To investigate the effect factors of their auditory and speech rehabilitation and developments of intelligence of preschool children with unilateral cochlear implantation, and to compare the standardized assessment procedures of auditory and speech rehabilitation of cochlear implantation recipients in China and those commonly used internationally.Methods:359preschool children underwent unilateral cochlear implantation in the ENT department, the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, from January2006to April2013.165of them met the inclusion criteria and collected for retrospective study. The participants were divided into different groups according to their age、 mutation、cochlear implants type and malformation, then compared their auditory and speech rehabilitation and developments of intelligence quotient with speech perception rate、speech age、CAP、SIR and H-NTLA-CR for1year afer cochlear inplantation.Results:1.Etiology of hearing loss found in165CI recipients:60(36.36%) suffered from hereditary hearing loss; the prevalence of GJB2、SLC26A4、mt12sRNA were29.1%、6.06%、1.2%respectively.2. There were prominent positive correlations between speech perception rate and CAP (r=0.405,p<0.01), and between speech age and SIR(r=0.384,p<0.01).3. The overall rehabilitation level improved along with the increase of duration of implant use:mean score of speech perception rate、speech age、CAP、SIR reached85.3%、2.5、4.5、3.1respectively after rehabilitation training for1year.4.The speed of auditory and speech rehabilitation and development of intelligence of children with unilateral cochlear implantation underwent at age1-3was significantly faster. The performance of CI recipients with GJB2mutation was better than controls. There was no remarkable difference in the rehabilitation outcomes between EVAS CI recipients and non-EVAS CI recipients. The outcomes of CI recipients with different cochlear implant types were significantly different, but no remarkable difference shown in intelligence. The auditory performance of CI recipients with hearing aid experiences were significantly better, but no remarkable difference shown in speech and intelligence5. The H-NTLA-CR scores of preschool children with unilateral cochlear implantation underwent at age2-5were significantly higher than children in the same age without cochlear implantation.Conclusions:1. CAP and SIR were comparable to speech perception rate and speech age respectively, all of them were practical assessment methods of Chinese CI recipients.2. GJB2mutations had a significantly positive impact on the outcome of cochlear implantation.3. There were no remarkable difference shown in the outcomes of patients with EVAS or without EVAS.
