| Metal allergy following TJA has remained to be a less discussed issuedue to its extremely low incidence, vague clinical manifestations, as wellas diagnostic difficulty. Clinical symptoms of metal allergy is allergicdermatitis, surgical site pain, aseptic inflammation and prostheticloosening. In recent years, the skin patch test, leukocyte migrationinhibition test (LMIT) as well as lymphocyte transformation test (LTT) arethe most popular diagnostic test for metal hypersensitivity. But,noconsensus has been reached about the best diagnostic criteria of thisdisease at present, and most physicians would consider it only when otherdiseases like PJI have been excluded. Removing the allergic implant andrevision with a prosthesis that without allergic metal is most efficienttreatment. |
