| Objective The aim of this study was to determine the association between transforminggrowth factor beta-1(TGF-β1) gene polymorphisms and chronic periodontitis in Hui and Hanpopulations from Ningxia, and to analyze the distributions of TGF-β1genotypes and allelesfrequency between the two nationalities. Methods We recruited accordanced with the diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria forthe study, including145patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and148healthy controls(HC)in Han nationality;143patients with chronic periodontitis and150healthy controls in Huinationality. In our study, the genotypes of TGF-β1–509(rs1800469) in promoter region and+869(rs1982073) in exon were investigated by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragmentlength polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) respectively. We evaluated the genotypes and allelesfrequency of TGFâ€Î²1–509(rs1800469) and+869(rs1982073) from all the subjects andanalyzed that whether there are associations between TGFâ€Î²1gene polymorphisms and CP bycase-control methods. Results (1) TGF-β1–509(rs1800469): We found three genotypes (CCã€CT and TT) andtwo alleles(C and T) of rs1800469in all groups. There was statistically significant differencein the frequencies of TGF-β1–509(rs1800469) genotypes (P=0.029), no significantdifference alleles between the CP patients and healthy controls in Hui nationality(P=0.416).In Han populations, the difference in the frequencies of genotypes and alleles has statisticsignificance between the CP group and HC group(P<0.01, respectively). And the differencein the frequencies of TGF-β1–509(rs1800469) genotypes and alleles has statistic significance between the Hui CP group and Han CP group (P=0.032and P=0.038,respectively).(2) TGF-β1+869(rs1982073): We found three genotypes (CCã€CT and TT) and twoalleles(C and T) of rs1982073in all groups. There was no statistically significant difference inthe frequencies of TGF-β1+869(rs1982073) genotypes and alleles between the CP patientsand healthy controls in Hui nationality(P=0.719and P=0.542, respectively); CP patients andhealthy controls in Han nationality (P=0.764and P=0.964, respectively), CP of Hannationality and CP of Hui nationality (P=0.199and P=0.210, respectively). Conclusion (1)The polymorphism of the TGF-β1–509(rs1800469) was associated withthe chronic periodontitis in Hui and Han nationality, and the difference has statisticsignificance between the two nationalities.(2)The polymorphism of theTGF-β1+869(rs1982073) was not associated with the chronic periodontitis in Hui and Hannationality and there was no difference between the two nationalities. |
