ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of vestibular rehabilitation therapy(VRT) in vertigo and balance disotrder treatment, we did individualized vestibular rehabilitation treatment. MethodsAccording to pertinent rehabilitation therapy,76 patients were devided into two groups(unilateral and bilateral vestibular deficiency). There were 58 patients in unilateral group which were randomly devided into A and B group and each group contains 29 patients. The group A received simple drug treatment only, The group B receive drug joint vestibular rehabilitation therapy. There were 18 patients of bilateral were randomly devided into group C and D and each group contains 9 patients. The group C receive simple drug treatment only and the group D receive drug joint vestibular rehabilitation therapy. All patients did hearing test(intend to whether exist hearing loss, the type and level,)before and after 4 weeks treatment. Vestibular symptom index(VSI),Berg Balance Scale(BBS),Romberg-test and Fukuda step-test. and compare with the difference of equilibrium function between group Aand B, Cand D is respectively pretherapy and 4 weeks after the treatment。 ResultsAfter 4 weeks of treatment, the VSI scores of four groups were all significantly lower than before treatment. our results also show that groups with drug therapy combined with rehabilitation had higher BBS scores than control group only with drug treatment. Patient given drug therapy combined with rehabilitation had significant improvement in reach,Romberg-test and Fukuda step-test. Conclusion Vestibular rehabilitation therapy has be proven to be more effective than conventional drug therapy. It could become a common method in the treatment of vertigo and balance disorders.
