Objective: Fibroblasts were cultured in four different pure titanium surfaces, to evaluate cells’ adhesion and proliferation. Staphylococcus aureus(Sa) was inoculated on different pure titanium surfaces to observe the bacterial adhesion morphology and number of bacteria of the surface. The purpose of this study was to find a better pure titanium surface for soft tissue attachment. Methods: Pure titanium rod was cut into titanium sheet specimens(10mm×10mm×1mm). The specimens were grinded and polished and randomly divided into four groups, each with different surface treatments(smooth group, double acid corrosion sandblasting group, HF acid etching sandblasting group, microarc oxidation group). According to the different surface treatment group respectively, to observe the surface morphology of 4 groups of specimens and analyze the surface of specimens. L-929 Mouse fibroblast cells were inoculated on different groups of titanium plates and tested by MTT to detect cells’ adhesion and proliferation. Cells were cultured for 24 h and cells’ Spreading morphology were observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). Sa was inoculated on 4 groups of specimens. The bacteria’s adhesion morphology were observed by SEM and the number of bacteria was calculated.Result: On the MAO specimen, The structure of micro porous was found by SEM. These micro porous looked like "volcano" and had relatively uniform aperture. The aperture was between 1-3μm. Irregular pits and particles were found on the surfaces of two sandblasting groups. The comparison between the rates of fibroblasts’ adhesion and proliferation was smooth group<HF acid etching sandblasting group<double acidcorrosion sandblasting group<MAO group(P﹤0.05). The cell morphology on the MAO specimens was better than other three groups. The study showed that the bacteria attached the rough surface more easilyConclusion: Compared with the other three kinds of surfaces, fibroblasts could be able to better adhesion and proliferation on MAO surface. MAO surface is good for soft tissue attachment on implant abutment. But the bacteria attach the MAO surface easily. There are more works to be done to inhibit bacterial adhesion on the implant abutment and to prevent implant related infection in the future.
