The influenza disease in modern medicine is belonged to the scope of exppathogenic disease of traditional Chinese medicine. Once the patients are infected with flu virus, the clinical manifectation will appear the syndromes of fever with chills, headache and sore, nasal congestion or with a running nose, swollen sore throat, dry mouth and thrist, red tongue with white or thin-yellow coating, and with floating and rapid pulse. Influenza is with the characteristics of rapid transmission and strong infectivity. Besdies the patients feel extremely uncomfortable in the course of disease, they are in the danger of death if they cannot get proper care and treatment. For example, Spanish Influenza in 1918 caused the death of over 20 millions of people, and the latest one, H1N1 Influenza in 2009, also caused the death of 20 thousands of people. Indeed, Influenza disease threats severely the life of human being. In the past 2000 years, traditional Chinese medicine already got many effective guidelines in the treatment of influenza from the experiences of treating external contraction of warm pathogen diseases with the methodology of differentication of clinical syndrome, and the prescription of Chinese medicine. Chinese doctors took the series of theories in actual clinical practice, including cold-induced theory and warm pathogen theory, and got some useful and basic recipes to treat the patients of the influenza in the past. The modern Chinese doctors and researchers contined to develop novel prescritions based on those basic theories and prescriptions. Yinqiaochaiqui Powder, developed from Cold-Warm mixed theory, is one of them and it has been proved with significant curative effect in the past flu seasons. However, Paris root in this prescription is with high cost and discovered to be poisonous in the recent studies with white mouses. And Figwort root is easy to cause the side effect of diarrhea for the patients of deficiency-cold of spleen and stomach. In this research, we propose to remove Paris root and Figwort root from the previous prescription of Yinqiaochaiqui powder and add a new component, rough-leaved holly root, into it to form an optimized and enhanced prescription, new Yinqiaochaiqui prescription. Rough-leaved holly root is a very popular Chinese medicine herb in general and people like to take it to treat exogenous cold, influenza, and impairment of lung. It is with good taste and very low price. We expect the new optimized presscription could be more acceptable by the patients of influenza since it is with better taste, cheaper and less side effect. We would also like to verify the curative effect of this optimized prescription on the patients of influenza in this study.Objective(1)The patients of influenza will suffer very uncomfortable syndromes and in the danger of death in severe case. Previous Chinese medicine prescription, Yinqiaochaiqui powder, is proved to be with good curative effect on influenza, and we expect this optimized and very similar prescription new Yinqiaochaiqui prescription could be with comparable or better curative effect on influenza as Yinqiaochaiqui soup.(2) Paris root in previous Yinqiaochaiqui powder is high cost and discovered to be poisonous in the recent studies with white mouses. We need to remove it from original recipe to improve the side effect.(3) Figwort root in previous Yinqiaochaiqui powder is easy to cause the side effect of diarrhea for the patients of deficiency-cold of spleen and stomach. We propose to remove it and improve the side effect of diarrhea in the optimized prescription of new Yinqiaochaiqui prescription.(4) Rough-leaved holly root is a cheap and popular Chinese medicine herb and people usually take it to treat exogenous cold, influenza, and impairment of lung. It is aimed to replace Paris root to improve the weakness of its higher cost and poison.(5) Rough-leaved holly root is one of the important ingredients of Chinese herbal tea. We expect the optimized new Yinqiaochaiqui prescription will be with better taste, compared with previous Yinqiaochaiqui powder.MethodThe search took the samples of the patients of influenza which are picked randomly from the patients of influenza cured in Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine First Affiliated Hospital. Those patients of influenza matched with the diagnosis criteria of influenza are randomly devided into 3 groups in equal, Tradition Chinese medicine Yinqiaochaiqui soup group, Tradition Chinese medicine optimized group and western medicine group, totally with 135 patients. We collected the data of their clinical manifectation and gave the score of clinical syndromes in their course of influenza, We put those score data into the statistical tool and check out if there is significant difference among groups based on the outputs of statistical calculation.Results1. Overall curative effect:The overall effective rate of traditional Chinese medicine optimized group is achieved 95.56%, compared with 93.33% in tradition Chinese medicine Yinqiaochaiqui powder group and 84.44% in western medicine group. The curative effect of 2 tradition Chinese medicine groups are with significant difference from the control group of western medicine (P=0.014< 0.05 and P=0.015<0.05 respectively)..2. The curative effect of symptom:In the curative effect of symptom, traditional Chinese medicine optimized group and western medicine group are with significant differenence (P<0.05)on the 3,7 days after the treatment, traditional Chinese medicine optimized group is with significant curative effect of symptom than western medicine group. But no significant curative effect of symptom exists between Tradition Chinese medicine Yinqiaochaiqui soup group and Traditional Chinese medicine optimized group on the 1,3,7 days after treatment(P>0.05).3. Complication formation rate:After 1 week treatment, the complication formation rate is with no difference among 3 groups mostly. Only the traditional Chinese medicine optimized group is significantly superior to (P<0.05)western medicine group on the upper respiratory tract bacterium infection rate.4. symptom alleviation rate in the same treatment period:The traditional Chinese medicine optimized group and tradition Chinese medicine Yinqiaochaiqui powder group are with significant symptom alleviation rate than western medicine group(P<0.01) in the same treatment period.5. total treatment expense comparison:The western medicine group is higher than 2 traditional Chinese medicine groups.6. new Yinqiaochaiqui prescription can improve the side effects of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea of previous Yinquiaochaiqui powder.ConclusionIn this study, we replace Paris root and Figwort root from previous Yinquiaochaiqui powder with rough-leaved holly root to form the tradition Chinese medicine optimized prescription. From the results of this clinical research, it showed this optimized prescription is with better curative effect than western medicine oseltalnivir prescription. This optimized prescription new Yinqiaochaiqui prescription is also with better symptom improvement rate, less complication formation rate of the upper respiratory tract bacterium infection rate, and lower cost than western medicine oseltalnivir prescription. That proved the new Yinqiaochaiqui prescription can be with good curative effect on influenza, sooner to release the symptom of influenza, less complication formation rate and lower cost.
