The number of patients with tracheal lesions were increasingly grower compared with the previous in recent years, accompanied with the decline in air quality, heavy pollution, increased accident and so on. The trachea stemming from tumor, trauma and congenital diseases such as surgical treatment often requires segmental resection of the parallel side anastomosis, which is in general considered that the normal adult trachea can still conduct anastomosis ≤ 6cm. After resection ≥ 6cm, there is dificult for the direct anastomosis so that they can not make anastomosis. However, trachea substitutes for tracheal reconstruction is an effective way to solve this issue.Trachea substitutes refer to replacing the resection of the trachea because of cancer, congenital or tracheal injury, including artificial substitutes(artificial trachea), human(allograft) trachea, self organization for tracheal reconstruction and tissue engineering trachea. However, different types of tracheal substitutes has been not yet widely used in clinical practice due to various causes and restricted conditions, although they have achieved some success. Currently 3D printing technology originating from the end of20 th century is gradually extended to the areas of medicine and so on, which tracheal stents conducted by 3D printing technology have been applied to the clinic and provided a new way for the further production of individualized trachea substitutes. This study focuses on the development of trachea substitutes in recent years and its prospect in order to guide clinical practice.
