| Objective:To observe the effectiveness of the Good Pain Management (GPM) Ward Program. Methods:The electronic data of cancer pain patients were collected from January,2011 to December,2012 at the pain ward of the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Guangxi Medical University. Patients who were admitted before the initiation of the GPM program were used as the control group, and patients admitted after the initiation of the program were used as the GPM group. The obtained information comprise of diseases that lead to cancer pain, type of pain, pain intensity, pain management index(PMI), and efficacy of medications. Results:A total of 852 patients (398 in the control group and 454 in the GPM group) were analyzed in this retrospective study. The negative PMI rate (inadequate pain treatment rate) in the GPM group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the complete remission (pain level decreased to none) rate of pain and the remission rate of moderate to severe pain patients (decreased to mild or none) in the GPM group were higher after the GPM Program initiation, there were statistically significant differences (P<0.05) between the two groups. Conclusion:The good pain management improved the pain management of cancer patients and provided experience for improving cancer pain management in the future. |
