Objective To summarize the clinical features and explore the methods of surgical treatment of cardiac tumours. Analysis of the clinical effect and long term results of surgical treatment of cardiac tumors. To improve the disease in clinical awareness and the level of diagnosis and treatment. Methods 157 Cardiac tumors patients who underwent cardiac surgical treatment from Jan 2003 to Dec 2005 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University were studied retrospectively, and statistics analysis the clinical features, pathological type, operation mode and the long-term prognosis. There were 56 male patients and 101 female patients with their age of 10-76 years (46.5±16.2 years). Results Benign tumor in 136 cases (87%), including 122 cases of myxoma (89.7%),14 cases of non benign mucinous tumors (17.6%); 21 cases of malignant tumors (13.4%), in which the primary malignant cardiac tumor in 8 cases (5.1%), metastatic malignant tumor in 13 cases (8.3%). In the peri operative period, presented with exertional dyspnea (shortness of breath) in 69 cases (43.9%) of 81 cases (51.6%), heart palpitations, chest tightness, chest pain in 40 cases (25.5%) of 6 cases (3.8%), fatigue in 31 patients (19.7%), fever in 4 cases (2.5%), thrombosis in 3 cases (1.9%), cerebral embolism 7 (4.5%), no obvious clinical manifestations of 23 cases (14.6%). Deaths were not found in the heart of benign tumors and malignant tumors of heart. As of 2015 March, has been successfully followed up 88 patients, the follow-up rate was 64.7%, benign cardiac tumor were followed up for 2 months-10.5 years, mean follow-up time of 5.3 years, malignant cardiac tumor follow-up period for the 7 months-8.8 years, the average follow-up period of 2.3 years, in which 14 people died, the mortality rate was 74%, death time 1-26 months after operation, the average of 24 months. Conclusion There are great differences between the survival rate of benign cardiac tumors and malignant tumors of heart, the long-term prognosis of malignant tumor are far lower than in benign tumor, the postoperative mortality is much higher than that of benign tumor, postoperative follow-up of the key lies in whether the tumor recurrence. At present, surgical operation removing the tumor body is still the main and most effective method for the treatment of cardiac cancer, early diagnosis, early treatment can improve the survival rate of malignant tumor after operation.
