Objective: To observe the effect and security of a comfortable urinary catheter on catheter-related bladder discomfort in patients after orthopedics surgery. Methods : ninty elective orthopedics adult patients, male, age from 18 to 60,ASA physical status Ⅰand Ⅱ, undergoing catheterization, were randomly divided into three groups of 30 each. Comfortable urinary catheter(L)group received 16 F comfortable urinary catheter after induction of anesthesia; D group(Dexmedetomidine) and C group(control)received 16 F Foley’s catheter after induction of anesthesia, and the balloon was inflated with 10 ml normal saline. L group received 2% lidocaine 5ml via the injection port of balloon of comfortable urinary catheter,D group received dexmedetomidine 0.5ug/kg(diluted in 20 ml NS), C group received NS 20 ml.D group and C group were given concecutive intravenous infusion in 10 min with micromedicine infusion-pump before extubation. All medications were administered 10 min before extubation. After tracheal extubation, the incidence and severity(mild, moderate, and severe)of CRBD were assessed at 0, 0.5, 1,2,and 6 h.The Ramsay and VAS of all the patients were recorded inthe 3groups.Results: 1.At every time point,L group and D group had a significantly lower incidence and severity than C group(P<0.05).The incidence and severity of CRBD in L group was significantly lower than D group. 2.VAS pain score in L group and D group were more lower than C group in each time. Whereas there were no difference between L group and D group(P>0.05);3.Compared with C group and L group,Ramsay sedation score in D group was much higher at 0,0.5,1 and 2h(P<0.05). While there were no difference between L group and C group(P>0.05).Conclusions: Comfortable urinary catheter could significantly decreases the incidence and severity of CRBD,Whereas the incidence and severity in Comfortable urinary catheter group was significantly lower than in Dexmedetomidine group.
