Aim:Nowadays, the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) shows severe lagging, that is, most of the patients’condition has already into the middle-late period when diagnosing. Also, limited to the treatment of tumor-to prevent its metastasis and recurrence, we got similar situation on the therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are taken just to reduce the size of tumor. The research of HCC worldwide mainly focuses on stem cells of HCC. Newly research indicates that removing HCC stem cells will become the primary therapy mode for HCC in the future. Stem cell surface markers, involved in various cell signaling transduction, are a certain small molecules existing HCC stem cells, playing an important part in cytogenesis of HCC stem cells. Studing on stem cell markers could help us understanding the specific of HCC, elucidating the mechanisms underlying the differentiation, copy, transferring of tumor as well as offering certain help in the prognosis of HCC patients. In this study, we explored the expression characteristic of CD90 and EpCAM, two of the tumor stem cell markers, in cancer, para-carcinoma and normal liver tissues of hepatocellular carcinoma patients. Furthermore, the survival analysis were used to get the conclusion of the expression of CD90 and EpCAM in HCC, will provides a new clue and way of thinking for the treatment and prognosis judgement of HCC.Methods:Collect cancer, para-carcinoma and normal liver tissues of hepatocellular carcinoma patients as well as disease history in Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from 2012 to 2013. Paraffin embedded tissues and tissue microarray are made followed by HE staining. A method of immunohistochemical are used to detect the expression of CD90 and EpCAM in cancer, para-carcinoma and normal liver tissues of hepatocellular carcinoma patients. Taken clinical disease history into account, all the results are analyzed.Results:1. There is significant statistical differences between normal liver tissues and para-carcinoma tissues.2. Relevance exists between CD90,an HCC stem cell marker, and the portal vein embolus, envelope integrity, clinical, pathological staging and nations. In the mean time, age of patients, tumor size and AFP values are irrelevant to the expression of CD90 in cancer tissues. Expression of tumor stem cell marker EpCAM is relevant to envelope integrity, clinical, pathological staging and nations. While irrelevant with age, tumor size, portal vein embolus and AFP values in tumor tissues.3. Patients with positive expression of CD90 and EpCAM showed lower survival rate compared with negative ones. However, the p-value in both groups are above 0.05, so there’s no relevance between survival rate and expression of CD90 and EpCAM.Conclusion:1.Tumor stem cell markers CD90 and EpCAM have a higher expression in cancer tissues.2.Envelope integrity, clinical and pathological staging are relevant to the expression of CD90 as well as EpCAM, taken clinical materials into consideration.3. Survival rate has nothing to do with the expression of CD90 and EpCAMAThe expressions of CD90 and EpCAM were corrrelated positively, it may show us that both of them participate in the occurrence and development of HCC.
