Objective:To evaluate the clinical effect and safety of Medpor Titan surgical implant in repairing orbital blowout fracture by comparing the preoperative and postoperative change of enophthalmos, diplopia, restriction of eye movement and orbital computed tomography(CT).Methods:Eleven eyes of 11 patients, who were diagnosed and underwent surgical reconstruction of orbital blowout fractures with Medpor Titan surgical implant, were collected from March 2012 to April 2014 in the the Department of Ophthalmology,Nanjing 81 st Hospital of PLA,and they were single orbital fracture. Enophthalmos, diplopia, restriction of eye movement and orbital CT were examined in all patients preoperatively and postoperatively.Rejection or migration of the implats and positions of embedded soft tissues were observed postoperatively and then enophthalmos, diplopia, restriction of eye movement and orbital CT images in these cases preoperatively were compared to that of postoperation. Results:All patients were followed up for 3 ~ 24 months, average 11.82 months. The best corrected visual acuity was 0.72 ± 0.33,and there was no statistically significant difference comparing with the preoperative visual acuity(P>0.05). Among the 9 patient who had enophthalmos before the surgery, 8 cases were corrected(<2mm), while the other patient had residual 3 mm of enophthalmos after the surgery. Mean of enophthalmos was(-0.89±1.17) mm(range-3~-1 mm). There was statistical significance(P<0.01) compared with that(-2.78±0.83 mm)of preoperation. Eye movement was satisfactory in 5 cases and the other was improved. In 6 patients with diplopia, diplopia disappeared in 5 cases and the other one became better. Orbital walls of all cases were repaired well. There were no cases of implant rejection or migration and embedded soft tissues were reduced completely. But orbital hematoma occurred in only one patient postoperatively, and was absorbed after one month. Conclusion:Medpor Titan is an ideal material for the reconstruction of orbital fracture, which can not only be used well in repairing orbital fracture, but also be imaged on the radiograph.
