Objective:To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of Jin’s spirit regulation method in treating tumor related depression and establish an effective, economical and practicable approach for tumor related depression.Methods:60 patients were randomly divide into group 1 (treated with sertraline) and group 2(treated with Jin’s three needles technique). Patients in group1 received sertraline 50mg QD for 4 weeks. Patients in group 2 were divided into 5 subtypes according to traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome differentiation which included liver-Qi stagnation, blazing fire due to Qi congestion, spirit damage due to melancholy, spleen and heart deficiencies, blazing fire due to Yin deficiencies. The main points in group2 were as follow:the hand intelligent combination(PC 6, HT 7, PC 8), the spirit-stablize combination(EX-HN3,GB 14), the four spirit points(1.5 cun longitudinal and lateral to DU 20). LI 4 and LR 3 were added as associated points for liver-Qi stagnation with conduction method. HT 8 and LR 2 were added as associated points for blazing fire due to Qi congestion with reduction method. PC 6 and SP 4 were added as associated points for spirit damage due to melancholy with conduction method. HT 7 and SP 6 were added as associated points for spleen and heart deficiencies with tonif ication method. KI 3 is added for blazing fire due to Yin deficiencies with tonif ication method. Disposable sterile acupuncture needles were inserted into acupoints slowly. Flying needle technique was applied in needle manipulation. Lifting-Thrusting needle technique was applied in tonification and reduction. Tonification and reduction method were carried out at every 15 minutes interval. Needles were retained for 1 hour. Pure mox-stick were applied for20mins-moxibustion. Treatments in both groups last 4 weeks at 1 day interval. Depression accessment were carried out through Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)and Zung’s SelfRating Depression Scale(SDS)before the treatment,1 week later,2 weeks later,3 weeks later,4 weeks later. Pre-treatment and post-treatment quality of life questionnaire (QLQ-C30) were also collected for quality of life accessment. Subtraction rate of HAMD were used for therapeutic effect accessment. All data were processed through software SPSS17.0. Chi-square test is chosen for count data processing. All measurement data were test for normality. T-test was chosen for measurement data which fits normal distribution. Rank sum test was chosen for measurement data which didn’t fits normal distribution and ordinal data. P<0.05 serves as a marker for statistical differences and P<0.01 serves as a marker for marked statistical differences. Results:Four treatment weeks later, both group achieved marked improvement in HAMD and SDS accessment, but group 2 achieved more rapid and distinct therapeutic effect. Both group achieved marked improvement in somatic function, role function, emotional function, general health, fatigue, insomnia, appetite loss. Further more, group 2 achieved marked improvement in cognitive function, pain, dyspnea and economic difficulties. Group 2 achieved better improvement in emotional function, general health and appetite loss. Group 1 achieved marked improvement in constipation symptoms, whereas group 2 didn’t. Group 2 achieved marked improvement in diarrhea symptoms, whereas group 1 didn’t. Group 2 achieved better therapeutic effect. Conclusions:Jin’s spirit regulation method is an effective, economical, practicable approach for tumor related depression which achieves better therapeutic effect than first line sertraline treatment.
