Clinical Observation Of Reinforcing Kidney And Tonifying Spleen Method On Cough Variant Asthma Patients

Cough variant asthma (CVA, cough variant asthma) is a type of atypical bronchial asthma with intense irritating cough symptom at night. Reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen method is a therapy treating CVA based on "from lung and kidney of governance" by Professor Chao Enxiang. The study aims to further explore the improvement of the patients’symptoms who used the CVA reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen method, find out a more effective Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) therapy treating CVA, improve prognosis, and provide a theoretical basis.Objetive:To further clarify the important role of TCM therapy in treating the CVA by a prospective clinical research through comparing the patients’symptoms before and after using the reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen method.Methods:40 cases of the patients met the criteria were collected. The cough scores, symptom scores and other indicators of assessment from the experimental group (given reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen formula) were being recorded before the research,2 weeks and 4 weeks after research starts in order to evaluate the effect of reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen method treating CVA.Results:1.The symptoms of the patients including cough and sputum are improving, after using reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen method for 2 weeks. Also there is a statistical significance(p<0.01) after being treating by reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen method for 4 weeks.2.After being treated for 2 weeks, the numbers of patients having the symptoms for example, tired, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, nocturna were obviously reduced. While the general scores of evaluation is statistically significant as well(p<0.01). After four weeks of the treatment, most of the patients with secondary symptoms significantly improved compared with themselves before the treatment. Patients still have secondary symptoms accounted for only about 10% of the total. The integrator also shows statistical significance (p<0.01).3. For the effect evaluation, the total effective rate is above 97.37 after treating for 4 weeks.Conclusion:reinforcing kidney and tonifying spleen method is significant effective for the CVA patients with spleen and kidney deficiency.
