Prostate cancer (PCa) is the sixth biggest cancer in the earth and the second in the male. In the western countries, prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in the male genitourinary system, with morbidity rate of one in thousand. Recently, morbidity of prostate cancer in China has been rapidly increased as the changing of people’s life style and dietary structure. Among 100 thousand people, there are 1.6 developing prostate cancer in 2002, while 9.92 in 2012, which showed an increase of 5 times. Early time, the prostate cancer cells grow depending on androgen and the androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) can effectively inhibit the progression of cancers. However, when prostate cancer recurred, the survived cancer cells progress to be androgen-independent. Since there is no effective therapy method for the recurrence prostate cancer, patients’health and life has been risked. Thus, finding drugs and methods to treat the androgen-independent prostate cancer has been the focus of research.DU-145, PC-3 and 22Rv1 are all androgen-independent prostate cancer cell lines and are widely used in the study of prostate cancers. DU-145 and PC-3 do not express androgen receptor (AR) and cannot secret prostate specific antigen (PSA), while majority of clinical prostate cancer significantly expressed the two genes.22Rvl cells can express both the two genes and grow dependently on the AR signaling pathway.Sulfur was used in clinical treatment of various diseases. Recently, traditional Chinese medicine has been used in the treatment of prostate cancer, especially the recurrence prostate cancer, and improved patients’lives effectively. Since it has reported that sulfur can inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro, our research in the effect of sulfur on androgen-independent prostate cancer makes big senses.MEIN is powder with whey peptide and the products of Lactobacillus fermentation. As the main ingredient of MEIN, whey protein has low content of cholesterol, fat, and lactose, which makes it easily digested and absorbed. In addition, whey protein showed high biological utilization value and can be good nutrition supplements. Many case reports have showed whey protein was good for the postoperative recovery of patients with cancer in urinary system and played important roles in improvement of patients’lives. In this paper, we researched the effects of sulfur and MEIN on growth of androgen-independent prostate cancer and the possible mechanism in two independent parts.
