Objective: This study is to investigate the postoperative morphological characteristics of Maxillary and mandibular arch and its width coordination in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate together with the individual normal permanent dentition in Xinjiang, and to analysis their similarities and differences, in purpose with providing theoretical support for unilateral cleft lip and palate patients with orthodontic and orthognathic treatment. Methods: A total of 42 patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate admitted were selected as observation group, 38 patients with individual normal occlusion as control group. Using the models to investigate the postoperative morphological characteristics of maxillary and mandibular arch in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate patients, and to understand the development trend of arch growth and coordination.Results:1. In patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate, the proportion of malocclusion increasing is up to 69 %, including posterior teeth malocclusion 51.4%.2. In the aspect of maxillary arch width and length, the width in the areas of the maxillary canine area, the first and second premolars, together with the lengths of anterior region and posterior area were significantly reduced compared with the normal occlusion, and the differences were significant differences.3. In the aspect of mandibular arch width and length, the width of the first molar is significantly decreased compared with normal occlusion, and the difference was statistically significant.4. In compare the fissure side with unilateral cleft lip and palate with non-fractured side, the widths of canine region and the first premolar side were significantly reduced.5.To compare the width and length of maxillary arch in Han and Uygur, the difference was not statistically significant.6. The width ratio in unilateral cleft lip and palate of canine, premolars and the first molar with the second molar respectively were reduced in comparing with normal occlusion, and there were significant differences. Conclusion:1. The coordination of maxillary and mandibular inunilateral cleft lip and palate was poor, and the ratio of malocclusions in anterior and posterior was high. 2. All maxillary arch widths and lengths of control group are significantly smaller than those of the observation group, especially in the middle of the arch. The shape of entire arch is becoming a V-shape. The width and length of mandibular arch were not changed compensatory. 3. In unilateral cleft lip and palate patients, the inhibition in fissure side was significant greater than the non-fissure side, especially in the canine and the first premolar. 4.The effect of cleft lip and palate is different in observation group and control group.
