Objective:To analyze the correlations of between Body Mass Index (BMI) and percentage body fat (PBF) in different nationality and gender,BMI and PBF in the diagnostic evaluation of obesity.Methods:A total of 925 health adults were enrolled from Health Check Centre of First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University.Bioelectrical impedance mea surement was used to measure the weight,PBF and calculating the BMI, then analy ze the relationship between BMI and PBF in different nationality and gender.Results:1.In all of those subjects,PBF of Han males were higher than Uygur males in the normal group(18.5<BMI<23.9) and overweight group(24<BMI<28kg/m2) at t he same level of BMI. PBF of Han females were higher than Uygur females in th e underweight(BMI<18.5kg/m2),overweight(24≤BMI<28kg/m2) and obese group(BMI> 28kg/m2).2.The BMI and PBF of all men and women was closely related. The corr elation coefficient of BMI and PBF of Uygur females was 0.827,showed closely re lated. The correlation coefficient of BMI and PBF of Han females was 0.778,the a ssociation was fairly modest.The BMI and PBF of Uyghur and Han males had mo derate correlations.3.Diagnostic agreement between the BMI and PBF of female is poorer than male,particularly in Han women.Conclusion:Compared with Uygur,Han although generally have higher PBF at the s ame level of BMI.There is malconformation between BMI and PBF.Evaluation of o besity cannot simply rely on BMI;it should be analyzed combined with PBF.
