Objective: Paraquat poisoning can cause multiple organ damage, and the lung is themajor target organ damaged by Paraquat poisoning. Affected patients ultimately dead ofmultiple organ failure or severe infection resulted from pulmonary fibrosis. Because thereis no specific antidote, the conventional symptomatic treatment seems to have little effect, and due to high mortality rate. This study is aim to investigate the influence ofatorvastatin on serum mucoprotein, hyaluronic acid (HA), type Ⅲ precollagen protein(PCⅢ), type Ⅳcollagen protein (CⅣ) of affected patients by Paraquat poisoning, andevaluate the effects of atorvastatin on paraquat induced pulmonary fibrosis.Disclaimer: This experiment All patients were willing to participate, and by the hospitalethics committee approved. Methods: A total of41patients who had no underlying disease were randomly dividedinto experimental Group (conventional therapy and atorvastatin calcium20mg,qd,orallyfor two weeks) which involving22cases, and the control group (only conventionaltreatment)(19cases). Venous and arterial bloods of affected patients were taken in theearly morning at day1,7and14. After the blood was centrifuged through a magneticparticle chemiluminescent assay, checked out the level of serum middle mucin, hyaluronic acid (HA), type Ⅲ precollagen protein (PC Ⅲ) and type IV collagen protein(C Ⅳ), arterial blood gas analysis was used to detect the PaO2values. Enter Line7,14days after hospital lung HRCT examination and CT changes in patient records,The diedpatients’ mean survival time of the two groups and other prognostic factors were forcomparison. Results:1、At the first day,the level of LN, HA, PCⅢ, CⅣ of the two groups had nosignificant difference (P>0.05); at day7and day14,the level of HA, PCⅢ, CⅣ inVenous blood was significantly lower than the control group (P <0.05); while the level ofLN was no significant difference between the two groups;2、At day7and day14daysPaO2decreased significantly in the control group, and has significant difference (P <0.05).3、Chest radiographic changes in the number of groups was no statistical differenceMeaning(P>0.05).4、Taking the average survival time of died patients during treatment inboth groups for comparison., the survival time in experimental group was longer than thecontrol group, the difference had statistically significant (P <0.01).5、The mortality inexperimental group and control group were both higher, reached to63.6%and68.4%respectively, but there had no significant difference (P>0.05).Conclusion: The affected patients by acute Paraquat poisoning with an early treatment ofatorvastatin calcium, it helps to inhibit lung fibrosis induced by paraquat poisoning, dueto reduce the level of serum middle mucin, hyaluronic acid (HA), type Ⅲ precollagenprotein (PC Ⅲ) and type Ⅳ collagen protein (C Ⅳ), but it only prolong the survival timeof poisoning patients, not significantly reduce the proportion of patients withradiographic,it can’t reduce patients mortality.
