Objectives:1. Theoretical research: We explored the connotation and clinicalsignificance by studying the relations between the liver and essence, qi, blood, bodyfluids and spirit, as well as the relations between the liver and other zang-fu organs andmeridians.2. Clinical investigation: We investigated and analyzed the distribution ofliver-qi depression constitutional types, and their proportions in terms of ages and causes.By exploring the major types of liver diseases with reference to the outpatient medicalrecords of Prof. Zhang, the author summarized the etiology, pathogenesis and laws ofsyndrome differentiation in terms of visceral manifestation of the liver.Methods:1. Theoretical research: By studying the theories relating to “innate basis” and“visceral manifestation of the liver” as well as liver meridian appearing in literatures ofdifferent dynasties, we explored the theoretical significance of liver being innate basis ofwomen.2. Clinical investigation:(1) By employing epidemiological investigation, weinvestigated200gynecological outpatients of Shandong Provincial TCM Hospital, using the “constitution type classification and decision table". On the basis of investigation, westudied and analyzed the constitution types, based on which we explored the role ofliver-qi depression constitution in the cause of gynecological diseases.(2) By extracting324cases that met the requirement of our study in our outpatient records of2013ofZhonglu Hospital, and analyzing the distribution frequency of liver related gynecologicaldiseases, we summarized the laws of syndrome differentiation of Prof. Zhang in hopes oftesting the significance of “liver being innate basis of women”.Conclusions:1. Theoretical research shows that liver’s functions of governing the freeflow of qi, regulating qi moment contribute to the circulation of qi and blood, women’smenstruation and reproduction, and thus liver is closely related to women physically andpathologically.(1) Liver-qi depression constitution is most liable to gynecologicaldiseases, while constitutions with yang-deficiency, static-blood and phlegm are second tothat. Liver depression may lead to pathological products, including static blood, andphlegm, which in turn become the inducement of other biased constitutions.(2)Emotions are increasingly important factors in causing diseases, among which liver-qidepression is typical inducement. Thus, theory of emotions causing diseases is of utmostimportance in identifying and treating diseases.(3) Liver related syndromes, such as qistagnation of liver and stomach, liver-qi depression, hyperactivity of liver-yang,stagnated heat of liver and stomach, account for28.4%of the outpatient cases. Thus, spleen deficiency and liver depression are the major pathogenesis of diseases.
