Methods: This study identified the origin of “Fu Shan Shenghua Decoction” by themethods of bibliography. After collecting and sorting the formula, main disease, mainsymptom information about “Shenghua Decoction” in Fu Qing-zhu’s Obstetrics andGynecology as well as in the gynecological monographs of the Qing Dynasty, we havedetermined the frequency of use and the association rules of all kinds of medicines, explored the core portfolios, provided reference for further study and inheritance of theexperience in the correct use of “Shenghua Decoction” in treating post partum diseases, and offered new ideas for further developing classical prescriptions.Through data analysis with TCM inheritance and assistance system about “ShenghuaDecoction”,“Modification of Prescription by Shenghua Decoction” and their medicalcases in Fu Qing-zhu’s Obstetrics and Gynecology and other ancient Chinese medicalbooks, the rules of drug use based on syndrome differentiation was explored. Bydose-response quantification analysis approach of Chinese material medica preparation, quantitative analysis of the decoction in Fu Qing-zhu’s Obstetrics and Gynecology wasmainly made, and the prescription compatibility, dose effect relation, rationality wasprobed into.According to textual research, the recipe had its name,“Shenghua Decoction”,initially in “Jing Yue Complete Works”, carried forward by Fu Shan, who explained thethree connotations in its name recognition and prescription.(1) Following Taoist notion—Tao gives birth to one, one gives birth to two, twogives birth to three, and three gives birth to everything; claiming that Tao is thephilosophic thinking about the source and law of nature development; affirming itsconcept of “Shenghua” as the theoretical basis for prescription.(2) Following the concept from "Huangdi Neijing"--"hyperactivity is to harm, suppression is to resist the harm and maintain the normal development"--as the guidingideology of prescription.(3) Holding the idea--enrich the blood through promoting its circulation, removeblood stasis to produce the new so that the new can be produced without stasis left andstasis removed without fluid damaged–as the basic principle of prescription. Through the composition and compatibility study of Fu Shan Shenghua Decoction, the advantage ratio was concluded: Danggui–Chuanxiong–peach kernel-bakedginger-prepared radix glycyrrhizae (8∶3∶1∶0.5∶0.5). This also provides reference forstandardizing prescription compatibility proportion and new formulation design. The compatibility characteristic and evolution rule of “Fu Shan Shenghua Decoction”and its modified formula can be summarized as follows:Priority given to sovereign drugs; deft use of pair medicines; combination ofmonarchs and ministers; due dosage of drugs; acquaintance with recipes and change inaccordance with cases; modification in conformity with laws; change of drugs according tovaried syndromes; syndrome-oriented drug properties; less yet effect-focused ingredients;pure and moderate medications; drugs corresponding to syndromes; low-priced medicines.
