Nowadays, most of medical catheters are fabricated by hydrophobic material, there is alager friction on the organization, they are easy to damage the tissues and organs, thereforethey need to improve the hydrophilicity. Polyvinyl-pyrrolidone (PVP) has good hydrophilicityand biocompatibility, and has been widely used in biomedicine.This paper mainly studied thesurface hydrophilic lubrication modification of medical PVC and silicone rubber catheter. Wesuccessfully prepared a PVP hydrophilic coating catheter surface by appropriate treatment andsilane coupling agent. We optimized the process by adjusting the types of coupling agent andconcentration of PVP solution.The surface morphology of PVP coating were observed by SEM (scanning electronmicroscope), and using contact angle measurement instrument to observe water contact angleof the samples. The results showed that: the hydrophilic coating treated by coupling agentthen coated with PVP solution was better than the coating directly coated with PVP solution,and the roughness of the surface coating increased with PVP solution concentration. For PVCcatheter material, the effect of using KH792and2%PVP solution was the best, the surface ofthe coating was smooth and its surface contact angle dropped to22.7±2. For silicone rubbercatheter material, the effect of using KH792and2%PVP solution concentration was the best,the surface of the coating was smooth and its surface contact angle dropped to32.1±3.The tendency of hydrophilic coating in water was analyzed by measuring water contactangle of different samples with soaking time at37℃in250ml distilled water. The resultsshowed that the hydrophilicity of the sample treated by coupling agent then coated with2%PVP solution was modified significantly, and the hydrophilicity soaking of the samples inwater8days was much better than that of the matrix. For PVC catheter material, the effect ofusing KH792was than KH550, whose contact angle is about53after soaking8days. Forsilicone rubber catheter material, the effect of using KH792was than KH550, whose contactangle is less than75after soaking8days.Soaked the four modified samples1to8days at37℃in250ml distilled water, thenmeasured the UV absorbance of leachate and drew PVP concentration change curve toanalyze coating adhesion of different process samples. For PVC catheter material and silicone rubber catheter material, the adhesion amount by using KH792was the most and aftersoaking up almost no shedding, which indicated that the effect of the sample treated bycoupling agent KH792was the best, and it was consistent with the contact angle changes.
