| Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease with a prevalence of about10-15%in womenof reproductive age. The typical symptoms of this disease include chronic pelvic pain,dyspareunia and infertility with an overall negative impact on the physical social andpsychosocial parameters in the subjects, leading to a significant reduction of quality of life.Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) is a multi-dimensional, dynamic concept thatencompasses physical, psychological and social aspects of individuals. The aim of this study wasto investigate the Chinese women perception of the physical, social and psychological effects ofendometriosis in their lives.To examine the influence of education, PMS, marital status, abortion, use of contraceptive,contraceptive methods, menstruation situation, employment status and fertility status on womenperception of the effects of endometriosis in their lives.Materials and methods:This survey study was performed from January2013to January2015at the Department ofObstetrics and Gynecology of Jilin university first hospital, throughout the period of analysis,clinical information from patients with surgically diagnosed endometriosis (n=151) has beenobtaining. The questionnaires were filled out during the outpatient medical examinations, inpatient hospitalization period. Anonymous questionnaires have been used to quantify the impactof endometriosis on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The questionnaires consist ofquestions from the Endometriosis Health Profile (EHP-5).Results:The result was57%of women perceived difficulty walking due to pain,52.3%reported toexperience pain and felt powerless,71.5%had mood swings,47.7%perceived lack of socialsupport, and35.1%felt that their self image has been affected by endometriosis of treatmentineffectiveness.27.8%felt worried about not being able to do their job,8.6%been unable toplay with their child/children,12.6%experienced pain during or pain after intercourse,7.5%feellike they’re are wasting the doctors’ time,20.5%felt frustrated because treatment is not working, and29.8%felt worried about the possibility of not having children. The analysis of variance (oneway ANOVA) procedures were done to determine the influence of factors such as marital status,education, PMS, fertility status, employment, abortion, use of Contraceptive, ContraceptiveMethods, and menstruation on the women perceptions of the effects of endometriosis. Somefactors such as: abortion, use of contraceptive, menstruation employment status, contraceptivemethods, education, PMS, fertility status had influence the women perception of the effects ofendometriosis. Marital status had no influence the women perception of endometriosis.Conclusion:In this study it can be concluded that Endometriosis affects quality of life, especially in thedomains of pain, psychological and functional abilities. However, there is need to improvemedical and surgical approaches to the physical and psychological treatment of Endometriosis.Such measures might include increasing energy levels and lessening of pain but special focusmust be given on psychotherapy and appropriate pharmacotherapy, which are essential methodsof managing Endometriosis. |
