Research On Lower Limb Biomechanics Of Mild Hallux Valgus Groups Under Different Intensity Movement

Abstract/Summary:
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analysis lower limb joint kinematics and foot pressure of mild hallux valgus groups during walking and jogging condition, to explore changes on joints angles and plantar pressure between hallux valgus and normal foot under different intensity motion. Therefore, we can provide some evidence on subsequent groundwork, for the better to explain the formation mechanism of hallux valgus. And we can also provide more scientific guidance exercise in everyday life for hallux valgus group according to the gait analysis of hallux valgus.Methods: This study selected 10 normal subjects as control group, 10 with mild hallux valgus for hallux valgus groups, all participants are from Ningbo University. Their feet size is 37 EUR. All subjects were asked to perform walking and jogging with natural and comfortable speed at gait lab on 15 meters long runway. We found the changes on lower limb biomechanics between hallux valgus group and normal foot group under different movement intensity.(1) Kinematics experiment. Vicon three-dimensional motion capture system was used to obtain hip knee and ankle angles under two motions condition. Last we contrast the changes difference between two groups under different movement condition.(2) Plantar pressure measurements experiment. This experiment used the German Novel company Emed-pedar series insole plantar pressure measurement system and its analysis software, and concluded plantar kinetics parameters of participants under different movements: peak pressure(PP), maximum force(MF), force time integral(FTI). Then we contrast the values difference between two groups under different motions condition.Results:(1) kinematics experiment. The hip joint abduction angle of hallux valgus group was very significant decreased, compared with normal group during walking condition. At same time, in transverse plane, hip joint was present on external rotation. In frontal plane, knee joint was adduction, but knee joint of normal group was abduction. There was significant difference on changes of ankle joint. Ankle joint of hallux valgus group was present on abduction during the early of support phases. These change trend of lower limb joint was no departed, when walking motion compared with jogging motion. Therefore, there was same support pattern under two movement intensity.(2) Plantar pressure measurements experiment. To analysis of plantar pressure distribution data, we can found that mainly tolerance area of hallux valgus was outward shift, which mainly bear area was the other toes, metatarsal area lateral, middle foot lateral and heel area, and contact time was also prolonged.Conclusions: Bearing force area of plantar was offshoring in hallux valgus groups. Formed a unique foot- contact pattern, which was depend on the foot of the lateral to bear force. And the way of support lead to be associated with motion of ankle joint. This was contribution to in abduction state of ankle joint. In the swing phase, there was obvious adduction changes in knee joint and external rotation in hip joint. This motion pattern was completely different with normal group and this maybe hallux valgus groups to make an adaptive adjustment.
