Objective:The objective of our study is to investigate the change of serum strontium in chronic kidney disease(CKD) patients in different stages. Moreover, the relationship between the level of serum strontium and serum lipid parameter or the level of serum strontium and serum lipid parameter and Left ventricle mass index(LVMI) in Hemodialysis(HD) patients were emphasized.Methods:214 cases of CKD patients, 23 cases of HD patients and 40 healthy volunteers participated in the study. The relating indexes including total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), high-density lipoprotein(HDL-c), low-density lipoprotein(LDL-c), diastolic diameter(LVEDD), left ventricular systolic diameter(LVESD), ejection fraction(EF), interventricular septal thickness(IVST), left ventricular wall thickness(LVPWT), and left ventricular mass index(LVMI) were obtained by direct determinations or further calculations.Results:1) CKD patients were divided into five groups based on the creatinine clearance rate. Each group possesses a significantly higher serum strontium level than control group(p <0.01).Significant difference cannot be tracked among these four groups. ROC curve method was employed to predict the cratical value of CKD as 40.25 μg/L.2) The strontium levels in HD patients increased from 70.749 ± 12.976 μg/L(before dialysis) to 78.830 ± 15.663(after dialysis)(t=2.183,p=0.04).3 There is no correlation between serum strontium levels in HD patients and age, duration of dialysis, Tc, TG, HDL-c or LDL-c. Lipid metabolism disorder is common found in HD patients, characterized by moderately elevated TG and obviously decreased HDL-C.4 Strontium level in HD patients was negatively correlated with LVMI(r=-0.502,p=0.015). HD patients were into two groups according to LVMI. A significant decrease can be found in the group with left ventricular hypertrophy(67.840±22.116) when compared tonormol group(83.599±12.592)(t=2.174,p=0.041).Conclusions:1 Patients with CKD can lead to the accumulation of strontium; Strontium level may have a positive meaning for the early screening of CKD.2 Hemodialysis may cause an increase in serum strontium.3 Strontium has a protective effect on the change of left ventricular structure for HD patients,in some extent.4 There is no correlation between serum strontium levels in HD patients and Tc, TG,HDL-c or LDL-c. Lipid metabolism disorder is common found in HD patients, characterized by moderately elevated TG and obviously decreased HDL-C.
