Objective:To observe the therapeutic efficacy of intravitreal ranibizumab combined with laser photocoagulation for the treatment of macular edema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO).Methods:Forty-five confirmed cases(45 eyes) with macular edema secondary to BRVO,who were all diagnosed in the Second Affiliated Hospital To Nanchang University, were randomized into 3 groups, each group contained 15 eyes.Group A(the laser group) was received grid laser photocoagulation, Group B(the combined group)was received two monthly intravitreal injection of ranibizumab(0. 05 m L),a second therapy of grid laser photocoagulation after 1wk of the the fist injection, Group C(The ranibizumab group) was received two monthly intravitreal injection of ranibizumab(0. 05 m L).The changes of the best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),the central macular thickness( CMT)and fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA) preoperative and at 1, 3, 6,9,12 mo after therapy were observed.Results:1.BCVA(Log MAR)The mean BCVA was better significantly posttherapy than pretherapy in all three groups(P<0.05).The mean BCVA changes between group A and B were statistically significant at 3,6,9mo(P<0.05);The mean BCVA changes between group B and C were statistically significant at 6,9mo(P<0.05);The mean BCVA changes between group A and C were statistically significant at 3mo(P<0.05);2.CMT The mean CMT was reduced significantly posttherapy than pretherapy in allthree groups(P<0.05).The mean CMT was better in the group B than group A at 3and9mo(P<0. 05).The mean CMT was better in the group B than group C at 6mo(P<0.05).The mean CMT was better in the group C than group A at 3mo(P<0. 05).3.FFA The number of fluorescence leakage of the three groups was significantly reduced from baseline. The mean number of fluorescence leakage was significantly fewer in the group B and C than group A at 3mo(P<0. 05). The mean number of fluorescence leakage was significantly fewer in the group B than group A and C at6mo(P<0. 05).Conclusions:The intravitreal ranibizumab injection combined grid laser photocoagulation is more effective in improving BCVA and reducing CMT than intravitreal ranibizumab or grid laser photocoagulation alone in a short time.
